did an hour and 45 minute run. not training for anything . is there much point running for that long . it was only a light run . only did around ten mile. would running an hour maybe 3 times a week be sufficent to maintain general fitness.

i burned 1200 calories . dont really want to lose that much weight. thus set out on the run and kept running. bit boring after an hour . just worried about the possible damage running that length on time could have on the knees etc

to burn that many cals you'd need to be 120kg+

If you're running 10 miles in 45 minutes you're onto something big...

Edit: Once you build up slowly and you're able for the running you're doing it will not damage your knees. How do you think the knees of long distance runners who do 100 miles + per week cope?

    Edit 2: I see it's an 1:45 not 45 minutes. Sorry. :pac:

Where did you get that weight from??

    10miles is 16km, so 1200 looks pretty good for somebody that's 70-75kg

A very rough estimate is (km)x(kg), and it prob underestimates slightly. Obviously there other varibles, like heart rate and speed (which isn't as important as you might think). But its accurate enough. It it needs to be perfect get a HRM

    What are you talking about?
You should probably take your own advice and read posts properly.
Where did I say anything about doing it in 45 minutes.

Plenty of people do long slow runs as part of training for events, generally 10+ miles, due to do a 17mile run myself this weekend. You don't run such runs fast and as long as you work upto it you should be fine.
