Hows it going lads, this question is directed at those who actively train with a football club. I havent played football in donkeys years but have the itch to start training. thing is Im 23 years old now and it may sound stupid but is that getting past it to be starting pretty much afresh, Ive played football casually throughout my teens and twenties with the lads but not competetively....

I just dont want to show up and be embaressed by lads training since their early teens ya know!

I imagine most clubs will have lads training together years, Anyone recommend new member friendly clubs around cork city?

I cant recommend any clubs but speaking as someone that was an even later restarter than yourself I can tell you its definitely doable.
I played indoor with mates at a very low standard for years and was only went back to 11 a side at 30 in a inter firms league, generally was a low standard to begin with but once I got into it I was able (just) to hold my own against good junior/senior league players.
That said I was definitley more vidic than scholes! :D

i joined a club when i was 26, im just starting my 3rd season now, i started on the bench, then a regular for the reserves and now this season the first team

i have to say it was a bit of a shock to the system going from indoor to a full pitch, all of a sudden i couldnt just run the pitch and score :) there's a lot to get used to but itll come to you eventually.

there can be a big difference between the divisions in these leagues, generally in the bottom division anyone can play so it might be a good place to start

also it helps to be as fit as you can be, i tend to do a lot of training outside of footy training and i find it does wonders but i also have the time being a student :) at our level quite often its a case of the fitter team wins :D

I play with a rural junior club in the bottom division and well be probably be training once a week with matches most sundays. Id suggest find a similar club and see how you get on. Youll be a sub for the first few weeks but your chances will come with lads having work or college commitments every so often. Just put in a good effort in training and you'll be welcomed.

i know a team called crofton celtic that play in the junior first division in the msl. They would be one of the best teams in this division but believe me the standard wouldnt be great so nothing to be worried about. They train on tuesday and thursday nights at 6.45. For the time being they are training in kennedy park but are moving somewhere more suitable in the next few weeks. You should pop along tonight you would be more than welcome

I was in the same boat as you up until last week, I'm 19 and I stopped playing soccer at about 13 or 14. I was really interested in getting back involved with a team lately and last Monday I went training with a team my friend is involved with. Its the C team so the standard is not too high, I was never the best on the team but I could play. Anyway, training went grand and we had a friendly match against the B team last night, which we won 3-1 :D. I found it tough to get back into the whole position thing and when to move forward and defend, but after a few games that will all come back. I will work on my fitness in between training sessions and hopefully that will stand for me.

You should definitely get back into soccer, join a team in a lower league so you can ease yourself back or start fresh, I guarantee you will not look out of place. Enjoy yourself and good luck finding a team.
