Just reading another thread about prison and it seems an awful lot of AHers know an awful lot about prison routines. So, 'fess up...have you ever been in prison? I've even included a nice, shiny, new poll.

Have you ever been a guest of the state? 26 votes

    I have.

I was held a couple of times in the cells. I'm not a scumbag, just some slight misdemeanors. Like when I was 15 me and a friend were throwing stones across a road to see how far they would go. Eventually I spotted a big block and wondered how far I could throw it.

Instead when I went to throw it I threw it wrongly, partly because of the weight, and of course the big block went onto the road. A van was passing at the same time and the block bounced off the road and hit the bottom of the van. I was brought into the station with my friend and we where shown the cells but were told to head home then.

Another time I was drunk with my GF in my Dads. Of course my Dad acted like a b**ch and started complaining to me when I was drunk and we had a war of words. I ended up kicking a door, though not breaking it. The Gardaí were called and I was held in the cell for the night. My GF had to get a lift home. Another time when me and the same friend were 15, we told our own parents we were staying in each others houses. We planned to stay out all night, and that was going successfully until 3AM. A Gardaí car pulled over when we were walking along the street and questioned why we were out. (For some reason he asked what drugs I was on, :pac: I hadn't even had a drink at that age) Both of us were dropped off home. I never was in prison itself though. (meaning both visiting the prison and living there)

Went out with a girl who only ONLY listened to "Prince" in her car as music for 6 months.

I would count that as prison time.

    P.S. true story.

Don't mean to pigenhole the people who have been to prison, but they generally aren't the nerd type who frequent after hours.

I was under the impression you had been imprisioned loads of times and actually needed to be rescued by an Italian guy?

You have to remember OP, this is nerd land. Most of these clowns would consider a nightclub hell, surrounded by girls, drink and no internet access. Don't think you are going to find to many Papillon's amongst this crowd.

I was cautioned for breaking into a disused garage when I was around 13, we got a stash of stickers and bowls with animal pictures, the ones you got free with petrol at the time, for our troubles :o

I visited Spike Island and Cork prison a few times.

I went when I was in school. It wasn't that bad, it smelled a bit like mouldy bread but you'd get used to that.
