Boots do a good high dose omega 3 oil (1200mg) supplement as part of their own brand range.often have 3 for 2 offers running. It's a once daily tablet unlike ones I've seen elsewhere where you have to take 2/3 a day. I read some research that recommends 1200mg a day as ideal dose

hemp seeds are a good source. don't germinate them though

The conversion of o3 in hemp in the body would be rather poor though wouldnt it? Carlsons brand from iherb is great as is fermented cod liver oil

I've just found this Irish brand of krill oil - sustainably sourced as well:

Never tried it but it looks interesting.

You should probably educate yourself as to why you might need to supplement with fish oil before you do.

This is a great article on fish oils which I think is well worth the read: http://thehealthyskeptic.org/essentialfattyacids

    Tried it. Tangibly savage.

Gave up fish oil for a while after the Chris Kresser article. Went back recently to see if any difference. Oh man if it's wrong I don't wanna be right. :D

This is interesting! I've a few questions if you don't mind:)
    1. What percentage of your calories came from polyunsaturated fat before you added in the fish oils?
    2. And what percentage of your calories come from PUFAs with taking the fish oils?
    3. Do you reckon then that it is BS to keep PUFAs to <4% of calories?
    4. What made you change your mind go back to taking fish oil supplements?
    5. What are you expecting to be different/better with the fish oil supplementation? Mood?
    6. Did you get some blood tests done prior to starting the fish oil supplementation?
    7. If so what markers would you expect to see changing?
    8. Why do you feel the need to take supplements rather than increase your fish consumption?
I just don't get a warm and fuzzy from knocking back those fish oil capsules:(

I guess in fairness to Chris, he doesn't say 'Don't supplement with fish oils' he says something along the lines of 'You might not be eating enough fish. If that is the case then take some fish oils. However please consider x, y and z before you choose to do so.'

Just saw 2 months supply of the clean marine krill oil for 20e (that's assuming you follow their one a day cap recommendation)

You can get fish oils in Holland & Barrett on a 2 for 1 offer at the moment.

Goodness! Amm, I think some days I'm above 4%, but it's usually days I'm eating fish or omega 3 eggs, I suppose around 7%. Fish oil is another 2g PUFA so I doubt it adds more than 1% overall.

I went back because I could find sustainable Krill oil that I could buy in a shop and I remember the research on stress reduction and omega 3. I am under a huge amount of pressure at the moment to finish my thesis and complete a massive work project that unfortunately have the exact same deadline. It's only been a couple of days but I just seem to be taking things more in my stride. Could be total placebo effect but there is objective science backing this up too.

I do still think it's good to keep omega 6 low but I don't stress about having an avocado or olives because I might go over 4%. We are early days with this stuff, the only thing we can be 100% on is to stay away from veg oil.

No blood tests done but as far as I know there's no cheap validated test for tissue 6/3 ratios yet. Last time I got overall bloodwork done, everything was fine though so I wouldn't know what to look out for.

I already eat fish about 4 times a week, I adore fish, probably more than steak now. The pills still have an effect.

I might be harming myself long term I don't know but right now I really feel nothing but benefit. Might just resort to fish after September but for now they are really helping.

got 60 capsules of that krill oil stuff on a whim, considering I just dont eat any fish at all and it isn't prohibitely expensive and while i'm not certain about any of that omega 6 stuff.. I dont really fry anything so dont use any oils and everything I eat is either fresh veg/fruit/salad or oven cooked/grilled chicken/pork chops so... probably ok on that front
if i'm not leaping over tall buildings in a week i'm coming for you el dangeroso

Again apologies for the questions! All very interesting stuff!

As you have pretty much said, it's more important to look at the overall picture healthwise and not just what you eat. What you've said about the fish oil aiding stress reduction is interesting. I've a cd called 'Rest Assured' which I am supposed to listen to to aid stress reduction but haven't really done so on a regular basis:( so this reminds me that I should get to it!

is there any major difference between Clean Marine Krill Oil and MyProtein's one?

MP one seems better value at €23 for 90 caps.

Op have you tried Udos Oils? IMO they are a fantastic supplement with the right amount of 3/6/9 ie less 6 which is usually in excess in the normal diet. The fats come from nuts seeds etc so suitable fir vegetarians and comes in liquid form or capsules.
The krill oil is good and a sustainable source as it's a teeny tiny fish so bottom of the food chain...but I think it might be better to take a higher dose than what's recommended, depending on the person I suppose:)
u did say you're not a fish eater tho so,
    That's my tuppence worth!
    ;)
