I got most of my stuff from this site http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/ and they have a sale on now I am considering getting a power rack :)

This is what I bought a few weeks back:

Your budget is lower but you could probably ask them for a deal for this package (possibly without the lat pulldown, low pulley attachment):

Nice set up mate:D I was thinking of thishttp://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-cf475-heavy-power-rack.php or this http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-cf334-bench-and-squat-rack.php I already have a power station so really need somewhere to squat and my old bench is getting a bit tatty :(

I think that, if your budget allows for it, the Power rack would be the better buy. You don't want to end up regreting it and looking to upgrade in the near future.

True its just the space that would make me think about the squat stands and the offer seems fairly good really.

I think other people said if you ring powerhouse you might get a better deal, they might even have posted a womans name to ask for.

Also try www.irish-lifting.com who might also do a deal, and check adverts, buyandsell etc as you often can get stuff very cheap.

Yeah, that's true. You normally won't even need to ring them - there's a link on the Website to live help chat. The woman I've always dealt with is called Lisa.

That's a nice set up wouldn't mind that space. I only copped it while looking at this my shed is only 90inchs from ground to top. Do you know there returns policy just in case I don't have the space

I'm not too sure to be honest as I didn't have to return anything. You could ask them on livehelp on their website tomorrow during business hours (a lot quicker than email).

According to this website, my rack is 81 inches but the two Bodymax ones are 83 inches. The Irish-Lifting ones appear to be 82.5 and 83 inches tall.

The tradeoff between various heights of racks depends on your own height. I'm 5 foot 11 inches and cannot do overhead presses inside my rack. However, there's hooks on the outside so this isn't a problem. You may be shorter and prefer to do them inside the rack - meaning a taller rack is a better choice. On the other hand, you might be taller and, therefore, a taller rack might still not give you the option of overhead presses inside the rack. In this case, a shorter rack may be a better choice for you if it means that you've enough of a clearance above the rack to do chinups and pullups.

I can double check the height of mine tomorrow if you like.

OK, this is not really fitness equipment as such but if I had a home gym, I'd want a wall mounted flat screen monitor for playing youtube training videos and music etc. One can dream :)

The pullup bar on mine isn't adjustable - I reckon it's the same story with most of them but wouldn't be sure.

The rack itself is a bit under 80.5 inches (Bodycraft F430) to the top of the pullup bar/rack frame.

Anyone considering it with very tight space, be careful - if you order the Lat Pulldown/Low Pulley, it attaches to the top of the frame and adds an extra 2 inches to the height.

I'd advise anyone buying my model to get the dip attachments - they're very strong and dips are a great excercise.

Here's a thought, with €500, you have a serious amount of money to play around with. IMO you don't need to go and buy squat racks, barbells and plates. Why not get creative? Think outside the box.

I, last year bought a sandbag (can weigh up to 45KG), a 20, 24, & 28KG kettlebell, doorframe pullup bar, 20KG weighted vest and also aqcuired an old tyre from work weighing 100LBS and got myself a harness. The average person doesn't need squat racks and bench to get strong, all of the above equipment along with basic bodyweight stuff is more than enough. All of the above will allow you to do squats (with sandbag and kettlebell working your way up to split squats and pistol squats), lunges (with sandbag or kettlebell doing overhead or walking lunges), push ups, burpees, pull ups/chins, olympic one arm movements (snatches, cleans etc) as well as KB swings. Don't underestimate how much lower body effort is required to drag a 100lb tyre through dry grass in the local park! You'd have plenty of change left from all of the above from 500e. You don't need expensive stuff to get strong and fit, use your head baby! And the best thing about most of the above equipment is that you can do it at home or in a park, easy!

Also just wanted to point out that I haven't benched in over a year due to recurring shoulder problems, so I stick with push ups and dips, oh and guess what i'm still getting stronger. I add in the weight vest for extra resistance.

you could do chinups on a barbell resting on the hooks. It is good for negative only chins in quick succession, have the bar at neck level, bend your knees and drop, then up again right away.

you could also get gymnastic rings for the bar.

Personally, I'd still go for the Power Cage because 90 inches is enough room. However, the deal itself looks pretty good - the weights and bar alone costs €350 (£300) with Irish Lifting which means you could look at it as the bench/rack costing you £230 (€267).

If, in the future, you decide to upgrade to a Power Cage, you shouldn't have a problem getting about €200 for the bench meaning you're only risking about €70. Here is a more expensive model of similar equipment for sale on Adverts.ie for €600 (he got a €400 offer)

The bench on your rack detaches for dumbbell workouts so you may want to add olympic dumbbell handles and an additional 4 * 5kg plates (supposedly the 10kg ones get in the way for dumbbell workouts so you're better using a max of 5kg plates). If you do this in your initial order, you won't have any additional delivery costs.

Don't wanna highjack this, but would people be more inclined to recommend Powerhouse these days over Irish Lifting?

Not getting my stuff til I move again after christmas so i have plenty of time to get sorted.

All i want is cage, plates & bar, bench, couple of DBs - at least for the first while.

they are cheaper than irish lifting with much worse service and lower quality products

i use both depending on what i need and what quality i want/can afford

The quality really depends. For example, when I was buying a Power Cage, I read reviews and specs of various items.

I looked at Irish Lifting's three racks, all of which are good quality. I then looked at the three sub 500 pound racks offered by Powerhouse Fitness.

In reading the specs on various websites and forums, the Bodymax CF375 seems to be very light and of poor quality - one review mentions how the safeties bent when they dropped the bar and showed photos. The next in their range is the Bodymax CF475 which seems to be better and is of the same weight as the cheaper of the Irish Lifting options. I didn't go for either of these and instead went for the http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodycraft-f430-power-rack.php which I'm VERY happy with.

The way I see it is, if you know what you are looking for, PowerHouse Fitness is very good. However, with Irish Lifting, you KNOW you are getting quality - they just won't stock the poor quality products (I remember reading a post on these boards from the Irish Lifting owner stating that he was in China looking at the Bodymax CF375 but he wouldn't stock it due to the quality - even though he could source it a lot cheaper than the racks he does stock).

just wanted to post up what i ended up doing. After more research done and advice on this site I decided to go with the power rack. I emailed the owner of Irish Lifting Mick and we done a deal for the TDS bench power rack and olympic weights. I am very happy with the deal I got and the quality of the items are outstanding. I was only waiting two days for delivery rang him on wednesday and got it today and would recommend this site to anybody.
