I saw on Twitter that upgrading your MBP to Lion really needs you to get some extra RAM to make the most of it, and 8GB is what you need.

True? Is Lion a hog on 4GB RAM (2.2 Chip)?

I think it insists on 2 gig.

Lion is running okay for me with 4GB of RAM. Safari is best avoided though as it has a memory leak (what’s new) and will easily eat up all your RAM if it gets a chance.

10.7 boots in 64 bit mode by default, so if you have 4GB or less it definitely will seem heavier on RAM. But you can always boot up in 32 bit mode by holding the 3 and 2 number keys during startup. You can also tell individual apps to start in 32 bit mode using the Get Info box. If you don’t have much RAM this should make things a bit faster.

I had 2gb in my mac mini and upgraded to 8gb after lion freezes due to free memory diminishing to zero very quickly if you have safari, mail, iTunes and iphoto open and try to use full screen and swish gestures etc. If you are going to add memory go for the maximum you can.
