    Hi all,
a buddy of mine who is a similar age to me and was a similar size to me has just shed alot of weight after attending a popular weight loss clinic.
Basically he ate 200g protein,3 small portions carb,3 fruit,2 dairy, all the veg he liked over 3 meals and 2 protein bars for in between meals.I would like to do the same but the cost of the clinic is quiet prohibitive.
The question I would like answered is about the 2 bars.
    1 bar has 150 cals,15g protein,15g carb and tastes ****e.
Could 1 of these bars be replaced with 1 scoop Whey powder mixed with water(18g protein,100cals,2gcarb) and some other snack to make up 50cals and 13g carb.
If this was possible I think I could achieve similar results, its basically eat more protein less carbs more exercise and plenty of water with a weekly weigh in.There was also some mental mind conditioning that my friend did not buy in to.Any thought of the bar issue.Thanks.

Why would you think a protein bar is not equivalent to a protein shake, all macros being roughly the same. Unless it has some magical ingredients ?

Because I know nothing about this subject

If you have all the info on the protein/carb/fat breakdown of that diet program, there's no reason why you couldn't replicate it yourself. Meal replacement products are just expensive gimmicks anyway, so you'd probaby be able to come up with something better tasting yourself.

Might be a good idea to do your weekly weigh-in with your friend or someone else. Having someone there to make you get on the scales when you don't want to is a good encouragement. Maybe organise a set evening with your friend. You each have to weigh yourselves (at home) and text each other your weight. I do that with my husband, it's great. No room for denial or avoidance.

  • See the Nutrition 101 thread at the top of the forum.

Research the Paleo diet thread, and also search for "Keto" "Ketosis" and "Carbohydrate depletion".

You would be able to get your macros of Protein and Fats from whole food sources while still maintaining a healthy calorie deficit. If you're struggling to do this, you can of course turn to Protein Shakes / powder. But make certain that you're eating plenty of fats too.

Again, turn to the Nutrition 101 sticky at the top of the page, and look at the posts. Educating yourself about nutrition to a level that is required of most to eat clean and lose weight shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours. The discipline to use that education is the hard part.

    Good Luck
