White car?

Would you buy a white car?

I'm getting a new Golf Edition-R in the new year and was thinking of white. But almost everyone I've spoken to hates it - negative reactions all round! "F*cking disgusting!" "boy racer" and some terms I've heard whenever I mention thinking about it.

Personally I think it looks great in the new Golf but I am concerned about keeping it clean - it shows up the dirt a lot. Also, resale value - the current white fad might die out soon and it'll be tough to sell it. But it is €550 cheaper to buy.

It's either white or metallic gray. Opinions?

White, they are not hard to clean and dont show up dirt as much as some colours.

    I think it looks great.

White is actually easier to keep clean than black - worst colour to keep right.

I'd go with the white personally. dents and scratches dont show up too easily either.

Never mind the boy racer comments, no matter what decent car you buy you'll hear it.

If you like it go for it, never mind what anyone else thinks, afterall you'll be the one who drives it!

You're ordering a new car. Get what you want! That's one of the bonuses of getting a new car - ordering it to your taste. I'd spend the money for the R kit on extras though - sport pack and climate or xenons would do nicely.

White is for vans. Looks terrible and cheap on cars. But that's just my humble opinion :)

I would go for it! I got a white audi last year and I was very doubtful about colour! It is easier to keep clean, does not show the dirt as easy. It never looks dirty and did does not show marks, also new paint on cars means car will not go yellow in time. I had same concerns as you about resale, but I think if you have clean car and keep it serviced you will resale no problem! Good luck!

Love white cars, have two at the mo

Why not if your buying it brand new I can't see it being any more difficult to sell on - €550 plus 5 years of interest will be difficult to recover

Any time I see a white Audi, BMW, land rover etc the first thing that pops into my head is "there goes a drug dealer".

Get whatever colour you want op. It is after all your car.

    Since 1999 I have had
    met Black
    Gold
    Silver
    Champagne
    Black
    White

Above all I prefer the white. So easy to keep clean and looks great even after a wash. Unlike Black :o

    All those with bad comments.
What cars /colors do they have?
it might answer their criticism :p

White suits a well specced Volkswagen/Audi car - go for it. Don't go OTT with tints tho, brings down the look of it.

I like white. Old farts don't seem to Like it. Just don't turn on your fog lights as it makes nice cars look cheap.

Saw an X1 in white thudder day.

    Branty new it was.

Normally wouldn't even notice an X1, but this one was easy on the eye.

That said, I'll betcha the next time I see one I'll be back to Meh! land.

how the hell can a white car not show dirt? this is the bull**** line that the rep told you, and you swallowed it,hook, line, and sinker.why do you thing the white car is 500 euros cheaper? it resale value will drop like a stone.how many secondhand white cars do you see on garage forecourts?answer, none.

    Do it!

I bought a Candy White MK5 GTI 18 months ago and have had absolutely no regrets. It is a serious head turner, good heads and bad, but sure you'll get over that.Previous to seeing one in the flesh, I disliked white cars a lot.

A Golf R?? Oh you lucky bastrad!:P Seriously though, if you like it, buy it. If you don't, you'll end up driving past me one of the days and you'll curse yourself. :pac:

Oh and they are not that hard to keep clean! I had a black MK4 before it and it was tougher to keep looking decent!

The white golfs look class. go for it. my last car was white and did show up dirt a lot. driving silver one now and its no where near as bad at showing dirt. I'd still go for a white golf. nice.

silver is crap. you'll be lost in the millions of other silver cars.

Do you own a white car or is this your own line of bullsh*t??
I've been driving a white car for the last 2 years and its pretty easy to keep clean. Yes it will show dirt (like every single car on the road) but it is much easier to keep clean and shows a hell of a lot less dirt than the likes of black cars.

That's because they're all too busy getting driven around the country.

I think I posted this before in a similar thread. This is my new-ish GTD, it might help sway your decision one way or the other! I love it, and I also find it much easier to keep than the usual dark metallics I had before. At the end of the day only your own opinion matters - buy what you like most.

ive had 2 white cars, 1 black and various others (silver navy etc) the white cars did not age very well and showed up dirt a lot more. they never seemed to look 'shiny' even when washed and waxed, whereas the black car (even though it was old) seemed to look cleaner in general and after a wax had a lovely shine. one of the white car cars got a bad dent and the paint was damaged and it looked awful much worse than a darker colour would have. however looks wise white cars can be really striking. they tend not to get as hot inside when parked as darker cars due to the white reflecting heat. hope this helps!!

I would go for the White as well. And it does not show up the dirt as much as a black car . The wifes White car always looks clean where as my black car always looks dirty unless I got it washed that day

I always hated white cars until I saw a brand new 520D in white ...looked fantastic and I've checked my mind about the colour now...go for it op.

I think white is fantastic on some cars - I've seen the Lexus IS250 in white and would swap it for my black one anyday - also some new mercs are stunning in white.

    your so wrong its laughable.

white is well known to be an easy colour to keep clean, i drove a white car for the last year and found even when it was filthy it never really looked that bad!

as was said, navy blue, grey, black, dark colours are the hardest to keep clean!

    because it's not metallic maybe?

OP, depending on the car, white can look great. Currently have my first white car, mkv gti, looks better than any other colour IMO.

Please don't be worried about what others think..I have fallen into this trap before and ended to changing the car too soon because of it. Go with what you like...your the one spending the cash.

White does not hide cow dung well. But it does hide dust well. So it works in the city but not the country.

If you are the type of driver that drives around with cowdung hanging off your car then color wouldnt bother you.

    BUT

    not in Ireand.

IMO they only look good when the sun is out, places like California, South Africa etc they look the business on some cars but in Ireland any car in white just looks crap, just my taste though.

White was never a colour I liked on cars, but it has grown on me a lot recently. Different manufacturers use different whites though and some are nicer than others.
As mentioned by a previous poster, I think it suits some cars better. I like it on the 1-Series Coupé, F10 5-Series, certain recent Audis, Alfa Giulietta, Octavia VRS, current C-Class, GTi Golf V&VI, Lambo Gallardo, Peugeot 508. Pretty much mostly German cars now that I think about it with the exception of the Alfa, 508 and arguably the Skoda and Lambo (VAG etc).

I've had beige, black, metallic green, navy, silver and white cars in the past and the beige one was the easiest to keep clean, followed by silver. Mud and dirt just blended in really well. I'm driving a white car now and my only gripe with the colour is that splattered bugs on the front become really noticeable.

If you like it OP, you should go for it. It's your car at the end of the day, it would be boring if we all went with the same choices.
