Some tips from the accommodation office when looking for places to stay::
    • Students should always view the accommodation prior to booking.
    • Always get a receipt when placing a deposit down.
    • Rentbooks should be supplied by your landlord/lady.
    • Rentbooks can be obtained from the Accommodation Office or Students Union office.

    Besides looking here for places to stay check out;
    www.daft.ie
    www.manorproperties.ie
    www.g.fitz.com
    www.bookaroom.ie
    www.munsterexpress.ie
    www.collegecribs.ie
Notices are frequently placed on college noticeboards, in toilets and beside WIT Card Topup Machines.

    hi
ive a brother going wit next yr (hopefully) and hes wondering what would be the best on-campus accom for first years?
could anyone tell which is suited for first years, any info appreciated

There is only one on campus accommodation, College Fields. Not sure what there like as there isn't a huge amount of them and I don't think many first years stay there.

Most first years stay in Manor Village, which is located a short distance from the main campus, and if you do a search on the forum you will see plenty of discussions and debates on how good/bad Manor is. In my view, its a bit like living at home - security on the door and its not permitted (unless you register them and I think pay) to have someone stay over. It has mostly first years and a lot of partying going on. Pictures on advertisements are when the apartments were first built, it looks a bit different depending on what apartment is booked.

Otherwise, people stay in Riverwalk which is generally quieter apartments with no security watching every move. A lot of first years stay here also.

After that, there are a few apartments/houses to rent around town. The list is in the thread. :)

I'm living in Railway square, the block c apartments there is one room available. If anyone is interested, or knows of anyone interested, please let me know as I am looking to move out as soon as possible. If you'd like to know anymore details about the place just ask.

    Thanks

I am hoping to attend WIT in September and I've been reading different threads about accommodation, I was thinking of staying in manor village because I heard it's the best for 1st years but nearly every thread I've read through has been nothing but bad comments towards manor village, and also the majority of the threads are from 07 and 08 so i was wondering has much changed or are they still the same ? I emailed manor about viewing apartments and they said you cant do it until around the 2nd week in June which will be way too late to put down a deposit. Any advice would be great :D

Why would that be to late to pay a deposit?. Most college accomodation wont let you view util around then due to students lliving in the apartments ..

Hi, I was wondering about student accommodation down in Waterford. I am due to start in W.I.T the start of April. I'm a fas student so my course is only 10 weeks. I'd be looking for somewhere close to the college, single room short term and cheap enough. Will also need parking

Anyone ever lived in Cahernane appartments in Waterford? What are they like??

Id say there is a list already there, but wont be fully done (I would imagine) until late summer which is usually when I publish it.

The Campus Times has an article about looking for accommodation, tips and the like.

Im hopefully going to WIT this September, I got suggestions that templars hall is the place to be from the nightlife side of things and would be the best for value. Im going down with two mates so Im wondering whats the best place to book for 3 people thats cheap enough. Any suggestions would be very helpful :)

Hey guys just registered to see if I can get some help.

The spoiler is going to be some background info on me just so you can have some context :).
Last year I moved out to Riverwalk, which was fine except for the Broadband. I'm really big into gaming and not being able to play any online games at all was really terrible. I know a lot of people are mad into sports / gym to take the edge off. This is what I do to take the edge off, so I hope you can appreciate how irritating it was. Anyway it was tolerable, I went out a lot (as you do :p) and had a great time, but I'm going into 3rd year now so I'm gonna be taking it a bit more seriously, cutting back on the drinking and staying in more to study and game a bit.

I've been checking sites and asking friends and I'm really interested in Railway Square, Aylesbury Manor and/or Strawberry Hill. I'm really hoping that someone will be able to answer the following question: is it possible to install my own private broadband at these properties?

I'll be calling bookaroom etc. tomorrow regardless to ask some questions and maybe arrange a viewing, but Riverwalk claimed to have "great broadband". And honestly it was my own fault for not checking my facts, I'm hoping to not fall into the same trap again. I'm hoping to get some replies from people who have lived at the mentioned places or are currently living there.

Thanks in advance guys! Great topic :)

Student accomodation? No. They provide it for you and other accomodation as a group.
Random rented house/apartment? Yes/Likely. A lot of landlords will just leave it up to you to get sorted out, but no broadband provider will give you a 9 month contract.

what gaming do you do? its not the best internet, but i did achieve challenger rank in wow pvp back in season 4 (as a shadowpriest none the less) so if its world of warcraft, you just need to l2p, most issues used to be with loging in, once i got logged in it was all smooth sailing, no real lag. i'd recommend living in college fields or else getting an O2 dongle if its a FPS you play

Yeah that makes sense, I'm gonna expand my search a lot - thanks.

@imported_guy: I used to play WoW but got tired of having a second job with no pay, :p I wasn't great. Main in the spoiler if you wanna see
I play TF2, CS:S, Starcraft 2, Warcraft III (very rarely these days), Dawn of War II and all its expansions, Total War: Shogun 2, Europa Universallis, Civilisation 5 (which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment). And about 10 other games that I go back to completely at random when I get hit by a nostalgia bullet.

I also hope your reference wasn't to Riverwalk since you literally cannot play online games, the ports are locked ;). I got a dongle from Meteor and found it to be completely terrible, I also had friends loan me their dongles, and I tried one from almost every company and none of them did the trick. Might have been my computer? But I have a pretty good custom gaming comp that should have no software interaction problems.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm gonna keep my eyes open. Early days yet for an apartment hunt :)

the ports arent locked, i was able to play wow, this was back in 2008/9, only the p2p ports were locked so you couldnt download the patches for wow as i recall, and there were issues with logging in (probably port related had to try logging in like a 100 times to get inside :P) http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/stormscale/leetbean/simple this is mine, havent added game time since may so dont really play much any more, and i also have a 5 digit steam ID so have played all the other games you mentioned :P, but not at riverwalk, i had quit them before college

Have you looked at the the list I posted earlier? Manor Village is where most first years go, or Riverwalk.

    Hi Scully,

Thanks for replying. I took a look at your list but it appears to be self-catering per the top of the pages (although I am unsure whether the last page might be digs).

The Girl I am enquiring for would prefer to stay in Digs rather than Self-Catering. Just wondering if anyone knows somewhere good to stay or could pm any place to avoid.

    Thanks,

If anyone is interested let me know! We are 4th years so preferably looking for someone in 3rd or 4th year :)

Alright, to make things easier I have created a new topic to cover accommodation requests and information for 2011/2012 college year. I kept some useful posts from last year also.

So if you need accommodation, post up what you are looking for. If you have accommodation, post up the details. This way its all in the one place and easy for people to see whats available and also to advertise.

Feel free to give some friendly advise, tips and pointers. :)

No corporate advertising/estate agents please - email hello@boards.ie if you wish to advertise.
