I'm hopefully a future student. I know it's my first choice actually I can't even remember my second choice :oso I'm planning on going to DCU. I'm aiming for Biotech. I'm from Dublin so I don't need accomodation.
There's a thread on the LC forum if you're interested :)

Hey, I was a fresher last year, so in regards to accomodation, most people choose between Larkfield, Shanowen [Sq or Hall], Gateway or Hazelwood [not knowing how far away they are! :v ]
Some go into digs too, or some with a group of friends from home will rent a house nearby together; it all depends!
Nightlife is usually off-campus, except for Balls and Toxic Tuesday, when the campus bar has a late licence. Quinns in Drumcondra and The Big Tree on Dorset St are the "local" spots, and then after that, there's town- Alchemy, etc.
    See ya soon!

Yeah that's spot on. Night life is pretty good, with all the above, and the amount of parties have in their houses/apartments, there's always something to do. Most societies meet in the evenings too and the more people you get to know, the more social opportunities open. :)

Hey this is my first year going into DCU hoping to do Contemporary Culture and Society. I am based in North Co. Dublin so its a bit of a trek for me. I got accommodation in this place.

    http://www.marinoaccommodation.com/index.php

Its about a 20 -30 minute walk to DCU and its about a 10minute walk to the Swords road which has about 4 buses that take you to DCU (Collins Ave). Its so nice inside as well. My boyfriend is in his 2nd year in DCU studying Law and Ive hung around up there and the social life is brilliant! Everyone is really friendly and the Hub is a great place when it has its student nights.

I honestly cant wait to go to DCU :D

Look on the dcu students union Facebook for people advertising rooms as well. Probably the best way to go about it if not living in one of the student complexes.

accommodation is on their website too

As an old stager myself, I can state that the social life if fantastic in DCU. Of course, it does depend on what ya make of it yourself.

But for incoming first years, particularly those in Larkfield, the social scene is great.

Toxic Tuesday also has to be HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!
Basically its a late licence in the bar on campus. Free entry, drinks from 2.50 and a great atmosphere. Have had great nights there on 30 euro budget (including pre-drinks)

Town would be more expensive, some great spots depending on your age. (Alchemy/Club M for first years, Coppers, Diceys etc for older students)

Like to add to people living on campus, especially Larkfield, Please be quiet coming in after a night out, and don't yell, that place is like an amphitheater and you can hear everything that goes on in the courtyard from your room. Someone yelling or even loud conversations can wake people up pretty easily.

On the plus side, you will all become heavier sleepers after about 2 weeks.

shanowen hall is full so I've heard but not too sure about the square.... just get on the phone and see what the story is... that's your best bet anyways

Shanowen Square had an ad in the paper a day or two ago, I think they are trying to fill up empty rooms. It's worth a try. I've got my place secured :)

Hopefully got into Computer Apps in DCU, and applied for on campus a few months back, anybody else planning for on campus?
Heard the social life is brilliant, but of course where you go out to depends on the group you roll with, pretty much. Can't wait anyway! :D

    Good Luck!

    Most people do get it!

Do you live far from the college, as I heard distance from college is often taken into consideration! There's around 1000 places so the chances are very high!

Hon the Deise, what part? I got an email from campus residences saying I got a room, but there was no specification as to whether it was for Larkfield or Hampstead. Do they put the first years in Hampstead together?
