Ill start with a few facts about be im 24 years old, male, 5'11 and weigh 13st5.

Basically i want to tone up. Im not happy with how i look. I used to be in good shape was confident felt healthy and pulled lots of girls. All this has gone out the window! I'm basically a ball of flab :D

The last year or two i've really left myself go. Drinking beer, s**t diet and have to say ive become very lazy. At the moment it feels like i have no muscle any where on my body. I used to way about 11st and was kinda of toned, then i went on a fitness spree (mainly cardio and strict diet) for about 6 months and dropped down to about 9 1/2 st (i felt this was too light). I was well toned and my plan was to start into weight training and increase my weight by gaining mucle. This worked for a while but i was in an accident and was unable to train for about 2 months and since then i went down the slippery slope of gaining weight and not exercising. Its now been about a year and a half since I've done any serious exercise. My fitness levels are very bad. Can barley run on a thread mill for 5 minutes.

I want to start toning up and improve my overall fitness and would like to start doing it at home and maybe go for a swim with mates one or two nights a week. Ive got a decent thread mill and a decent set of dumbbells
Any one got any advise on:
what else i need? How to get motivated? Best exercises to do? If id be better off in a gym? Whats the best way to start (I've got very poor fitness levels) What should be my balance between cardio and weights?

I was also thinking i spend about 100euro a week in a pub and maybe i could put this money to better use by paying for a personal trainer 1 or 2 nights a week.
Any bit of advise would be appreciated. Cheers

Holy sh*t 100 quid a week on booze?!
    :D

Fair play for making the decision to sort it out though.
Loads of stickies with beginner programs.
Pick one and just go for it! (take before and after photos for motivation - at 24 if you change your diet and do what you are talking about the weight will fall off you).

anyway, diet is everything, lift weights if you want to look decent after you drop the fat. read the stickies in the nutrition section, count your calories and you'll drop the flab.

Welcome but they will chew you apart for that word here.

Only a smart arse idiot whos got nothing better to do will.

OP I'd suggest you buy yourself a chin up bar. They're not that expensive and you can get a great upper body workout from doing pull ups/chin ups. Also push ups are another great exercise that wont cost you anything to do. There's lots of different type of push ups you can do as well to make them harder or easier. Just make sure you do real ones and not Ray Darcy ones. Good luck :)
