Bill Goldberg Confirms his Return to Pro Wrestling

On October 2011, Goldberg will make his return to wrestling at 'The Rumble In The Jungle 2' in Congo. Ok, so it's not WWE or TNA, but maybe he's just easing his way back into wrestling by taking this date.

I wonder how much the Congo are paying him. It can't come cheap. I wonder what his asking price is; i thought it was always much more than WWE valued him at, and much more than TNA could afford. That said, they afforded Bischoff, Hogan and Flair so maybe Spike TV could be coaxed into picking up another big name from the Attitude Era.

Yeah I reckon TNA would jump at the chance of signing Goldberg. I still think he has something special to offer wrestling, and would surely be a ratings booster for Spike. Not sure how well he gets on with Hogan, Bischoff, and Russo?

TNA would likely be more interested than WWE at this stage, but still he could also be a potential Wrestlemania opponent for Taker. Not sure Goldberg would be willing to be another notch on Takers WM ring-post though.

If Hogan could not boost ratings, than Goldberg certainly won't.

But i'm assuming Goldberg would actually wrestle, which I don't think Hogan has since he joined TNA.

Hogan did wrestle in a rotten tag match he teamed with Abyss to beat Styles & Flair. Takes some efford for Aj Styles to be involved in such a bad match but fair play tna managed it.

No wrestler in the world can increase TNA's ratings on a consistent ratings. Any new viewers popped by a big name will be turned off in a matter of weeks by the idiocy of the booking team.

Sure if Cena came in they'd turn him heel and have him take orders from Bully Ray in a month :pac: (but :()

Hogan's wrestled a few times as GTR mentioned; also get ready for Sting Hogan at Bound For Glory. There's also 100+ years in a featured match this coming PPV...

I think Goldberg - and the streak - was a special thing for wrestling in the late 90s, but how do you make Goldberg special again in 2011? I don't think it is possible.

I dont think any company in their right mind would touch Goldberg today. He's ten years past his prime, has hardly wrestled in the last five years, isnt a good wrestler, would demand a huge salery, probably wouldnt be willing to lose a match. The list goes on.

Saying that, I could see TNA trying to get him to complete the WCW collection of Hogan, Sting and Goldberg. But, he wont make any positive difference after the initial ratings spike. The ONLY person TNA should consider breaking the bank for is John Cena if he become aviaible. No other "superstar" would be worth what they would cost.

    idiot.
your the type of person who thinks tna doesnt have any stars and that by having 50 minute matches on impact would coz ratings to increase. tnas problem is exposure. casual fans dont care about bull**** like some idiot loser from roh being booked properly they want tv that is exciting. the casual fan is more likely to be turned off by the ****ness that is the impact zone or seeing some unknowns in a match than 'bad booking' p.s i think tna is **** but its not really their fault they didnt get that big. when the product was good ratings didnt increase

I'd love to see him beat the shìt out of Crimson with that lame undefeated streak. But pleeze don't sign him tna its bad enough watching your product the odd time the way it is now.

I doubt Goldberg would be badly booked in TNA, if he's one of Russos and Bischoffs boys from WCW, then I'd say he's more likely to come in with a strong babyface push, maybe a second undefeated streak storyline or something similar.

Also think there are a few wrestlers who could still increase the ratings; Goldberg, Cena, Orton, Rock, Austin, Mysterio, and Chris Masters all come to mind.

TNA's booking of late has not been bad at all, one of the only few terrible booking at the moment has to be Joe's losing streak.

I always sigh a little when I think of the 5-6 years the WWE could have got out of Goldberg had they used him like a star. They used him right for about 5 minutes in an Elimination Chamber match. Otherwise it was a booking disaster.

I hope Kamala is at this event :pac:

Ach I don't want to bash TNA any more; the numbers/buyrates, despite their wealth of name-talent say it for me. Suffice to say that maintaining a wrestler's aura is down to booking, (i.e. keeping that increase in viewership over months and not back to normal after the first 3 weeks) is something they failed to do with every big-name free agent in wrestling. (with the exception of Angle, they generally protect him)

I really hope that if they splurge on Goldberg, they do what WWE couldn't do, book Goldberg to his strengths. I hope they don't just book him like Samoa Joe for the last ~4 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Him coming in and steamrolling half the roster wont help anyone and TNA will be in the exact same position they are now but with a big increase in wages.

I'd have him beat a few jobbers like Okada and Rob Terry before having him feud with Anderson. They cant really do much more damage to Anderson so having Goldberg beat him wont affect him negativly. Then, have someone like Bobby Roode step up and actually beat Goldberg, lose the rematch but win the third meeting.

Suddenly, Roode is a legit main eventer and Goldberg was actually useful.

Saying that, I'd rather not see him at all. TNA lose people like GenME due to lack of money and yet turn around and sign people like Matt Hardy or the Big Brother guy. Someone needs to sit down with Dixie and explain to her, hell draw her pictures if need be, to show that the big names arent doing anything for ratings.

Lot more negativity to his return to wrestling then I thought, would he surely not be a strong addition to the TNA roster, or even WWE? How many of you would be interested in seeing Taker/Goldberg at WM?

As noted before, Bill Goldberg recently shot a promotional video for an October show in the African Congo, billed as the "Rumble in the Jungle II" after the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle 1" between boxers George Foreman and Muhammad Ali decades ago.

Goldberg said he would come out of retirement to wrestle on the show. In the promo, Goldberg talks about the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo backing the wrestling show. Rick Bassman is reportedly booking talents for the show and he went to Africa last month with Luke Gallows and Nathan Jones to promote it.

Several other big names are being promoted for the show including Kurt Angle, MVP, Matt Hardy, Batista, Shawn Daivari, Chris Jericho, Ric Flair and Shelton Benjamin. At least one of those names knew nothing about the show when contacted and another said his manager was contacted but turned it down.

this looks cool but the roster they're promoting - it's too stacked -- if half of them turn up i'd be impressed. Feels a bit dodgy; hopefully not another WZ or BEW... If it went ahead as advertised it might be bloody amazing!

    Those pics :
    Goldberg
    Kurt Angle
    Shelton Benjamin
    Batista
    ???
    Jericho
    My boy Heidenreich
    Matt Hardy
    ???
    Daivari
    Nathan Jones, mate
    Ric Flair

tbf maybe it'd be the 2nd half + Benjamin + Luke Gallows....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

Yeah well from all the advertised names, the only proof we have so far is from Gallows and Jones who attended the promotional visit, and Goldberg who made the youtube video.

Hmmm Luke Gallows, Nathan Jones and Bill Goldberg? I hope the Congo fans in row-Z don't complain that these white guys all look the same!
