The 19 times Champions are back in town

    th_150px-West_Bromwich_Albion_crest.png Vs 680077351.png

    Sunday, 14 August 2011
    Barclays Premier League
    Kick Off 16.00 BST
    Live on SS1
Manchester United's title defence begins at The Hawthorns, one of only five away grounds where they won in the Premier League last season. Lady luck was smiling on them on that occasion. Gary Neville should have been sent off and Peter Odemwingie missed a penalty for Albion. Despite United's impressive comeback against Manchester City last Sunday, which was inspired by younger legs, Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to put his faith in an experienced line-up here. Albion may give a debut to new signing Shane Long, with Odemwingie struggling to be fit

    West-Bromwich-Albion-v-Ma-001.jpg

That's probably what the utd line up will be

    West Bromwich

Subs from Fulop, Cech, Tchoyi, Ibáñez, Dorrans, Jara, Fortuné, Odemwingie, Mattock, Wood, Jones, Dawson, Hurst

Doubtful Mulumbu (abdomen), Odemwingie (ankle), Reid (calf)

    Injured McAuley (virus, 20 Aug)

    Suspended Gera (first of three)

Subs from Lindegaard, Fábio, Park, Smalling, Evans, Jones, Gibson, Giggs, Welbeck, Cleverley, Diouf, Owen

    Doubtful Carrick (achilles), Evra (knee)

Injured Fletcher (virurs, 20 Aug), Valencia (ankle, 20 Aug), Hernández (concussion, 27 Aug)

    Suspended None

Rafael has a dislocated shoulder and Evra has a knee injury. Smalling at RB and Fabio at LB I would imagine.

    Fabio

    Nani

    When was this said?

Guardian got that pretty wrong it seems

I like that. Cleverley and Welbeck seem to be on the same wavelength or something so I'd have no qualms putting them out together. Although I would like to see Berba get a few starts under his belt.

4-0 United, Nani to score twice.

Well Fergie definitely said Evra has a knee injury and it's why he didn't play for France but yeah, on the Rafael one, there hasn't been a proper source for it so I would gladly stand corrected on it.

Really looking forward to this match, should be tasty as it's at the Hawthorns. I fancy West Brom to take a point, don't think they'll have the defensive capabilities (Shorey lol) to take all 3 points though. Long, Brunt, Morrison, Mulumbu and Scharner are all very good players.

    De Gea

    Smalling
    Ferdinand
    Vidic
    Fabio

    Nani
    Anderson
    Giggs
    Young

    Rooney
    Welbeck

That's what I expect if Evra and Carrick aren't fit. Think there's a doubt over Welbeck's fitness so Berbatov may start. Cleverly starting wouldn't surprise me either.

Whoever is playing right wing out of Nani or Young will have fun running at Nicky Shorey. Turning circle of an oil tanker.

Yeah Clev and Welbeck have a great understanding and seem to like sharp one touch passing.

Foster will probably play an unreal game!

Looking forward to the games tomorrow. Two tough tests for the title challengers.

I think Manchester United will win 2-0 and Chelsea 1-0.

    I'll go 2-1 to United.

WBA to take a 1-0 lead to half time with United to come out in the second half and do what they do best......ruin everyone else's day :pac:

He's brilliant. Tbh if he hadn't had the career he had and played for who he did everyone would say the same.

It would also help if he didn't have one of the most punchable faces you've ever seen! :pac:

I predict a 2-0 win for United today with Rooney and Young scoring.

He's extremely well respected by fellow pros which is apparently one of the reasons he got the job.

    I think he'll be/is a great pundit.

Ray Wilking is at Stoke - Chelsea, which means he won't be commentating on our game. Get the fúck in!!!!

Alan Smith is painfully boring though. Better than Wilkins but that's not hard. Bring back Andy Gray tbh.

Andy Gray and Richard Keyes are a huge loss IMO, I miss them :(

Also going around on twitter that Pogba has travelled with the reserves to London so wont be involved with the first team today.

Starting line up going around on twitter.

United team..DeGea, Smalling,Vidic ,Rio, Rafael, Nani, Anderson,Cleverley, Giggs, Young, Rooney”

I like the look of that team, if its right.

A very fluid looking 4-3-3 if that's the team.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭G.K.

    Suggests 4-5-1 to me.

If that's the team, which will be surprising considering it'd be putting the apparently injured Rafael on the left back position ahead of Fabio, I'd expect it to be 4-4-2, with Young playing off Rooney. Then putting Giggs or Cleverely on the wings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,404 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Wouldnt blame berba if he wants to go off to PSG now

Theres about 5 different ways that could line up, I like it.

I could see Young and Nani wide, Clev an Ando in the middle with Giggs off Rooney.

The inclusion of Raf is suspicious though now that you say it.

Welbeck, T-Clev and Smalling start apparently.

Same team as above, except Danny in for Giggs and swap the twins.

    And fabio ahead of rafael...

Apologies for that team i posted earlier, lesson learn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Same front 6 as the second half, but keeping Rio and Vidic in defence.

    Happy with that team.

Anderson, step up to the plate. This is your season!

Exactly the team I wanted. Very happy. A very vibrant, fluid, flexible and creative front six with a ridiculous average age too. Should be a good game, WBA play some good stuff too.
