If its CleanMyMac you are using it will only clean temp, log and cache files from your system. It mite empty your trash folder too. It doesnt wipe your drive though.

To hit remove? ya sure. What exactly were you trying to fix with your mac in the first place though? You know Clean my mac just frees up hard disk space rite?

Tbh if you don't understand how CleanMyMac works you shouldn't be using it. These maintenance utilities are far from harmless. They won't delete your music, documents, etc, but they have been known to delete important system files.

well i thought it was pretty straight forward, get rid of bad tings in my mac etc not delete aload of things

You would think, but people have hosed their systems and had to reinstall because of these utilities. I'm not saying don't use them - the daily, weekly, etc, scripts they run are okay - but for everything else you really need to know exactly what files they are deleting. The problem with some of these apps is that they don't make this clear.

Problem with this, and similar programmes, is that you really need to understand what you are doing. But anyone with that sort of understanding won't need it anyway!

Leave well alone. Mac OSX is pretty good at doing its own housekeeping. I wouldn't recommend anything other than "AppleJack" and "Disk Warrior" if you have a real problem.

Keep your desktop clear, put away your files sensibly, and make sure your internal drive and backup drives have sufficient free space.
