I was just looking around online there for info on how to drop out of my college course and I found this article:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2010/1028/1224282143661.html

It basically says that dropping out of college is quite common if you got 300 points or so, but very rare if you are in the 500+ area.

I got 550 in my leaving and I am dropping out. I dont know anyone else dropping out in my course.

Anyone ever hear of people with a little bit going on between their ears dropping out of college?

How did you get 550 points when you can't answer this question? :pac:

    Just leave!

I'd say quite a few people drop out of their high points course, simply because their heart's not in it. What's the point in doing medicine to keep the parents happy, when You want to be an engineer?

no there are all sorts of things you have to fill out before you can leave, not as easy as it might seem.

To have some chance of having a job later on I suppose.

You're not a member of Scientology. Just tell them you're leaving and go elsewhere!

So best to stick in a course you dont like (and probably arent very good at) and wind up in a job you dont like (and probably not very good at)

When you leave be sure you're wearing leather fingerless gloves and a long brown trenchcoat. Have a stereo play this song and thrust your fist in to the air.

Yeah that makes sense. I think I am a sort of tortured genius.

Strong condescending post. Just because someone got 300 points or so doesn't mean they don't have a little bit going on between their ears.

I have information on this matter but I choose not to help you because you appear to be an elitist knobhead. That is all.

Not a surprise, really: people in the 550+ range have a broader selection of courses to choose from and are more likely to get their first choice on the CAO. The number of courses open to you, and thus your chances of finding the one that's perfect for you, go up as your points do. Nothing to do with intelligence, just probability.

Some bloke from Darndale got 550 points, got a place in college and dropped out.
But , he then went on to burn out cars and rob people ,and successfully got a place in Mountjoy.

I would see a difference between dropping out as in ending your education at that point, and simply reapplying the following year for something you'd like better.

Just chill out. I'm not saying you don't have something between your ears if you dont score well, I am just saying you definitely do if you do score well. There may be plenty of reasons why others dont do so well but.

Sarcasm? Lowest for of wit. You sure as hell don't come across as a genius, tortured or otherwise, so lets leave it there shall we, I don't want to get in a fight, I heard your girdle can explode at any minute.

Best laugh I've had all day. 550 points proves you have a good memory to regurgitate shite that's shovelled into you for the leaving cert but does not necessarily show that there is much going on between your ears.

The arrogance of silly, little boys who think they know it all!

the more points you score the higher your chance of being a social retard

You sound like a serious arsehole. Many people fight hard to get 300 points, and you look down on them. Congratulations, you got your 550 points, but now you're dropping out. At least many of the 300 pointers stick it out.

Eh.. Computer science in most cases has been hanging around the 300 point mark for years...

It's a lot harder than most courses I can tell you that...

Also will get you a job...

People who don't understand what they are learning memorize and regurgitate, people who understand get a sense of what they are reading and therefore they dont need to do so much rote learning because they have a better handle on it anyway. Memory only gets you so far, you need understanding too, and for that intelligence is required.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

But I am happy and I don't need to put others down to get through my day ;) So I will take my 400points, a happy child and his hard working daddy, and who knows with his job that will earn up to 150k a year, I may get the beemer after all :D

Just do what you want to do, don't worry about whether it's a common thing to do or not, and certainly don't feel pressure to do something you don't want to do just because you can.

I'm at a point where pretty soon I might be doing a job that doesn't have the same social standing or level of pay that what I might be qualified to do, but A: with the economy as it is it might be the only option available to me, if any, and B: I'd be much happier doing it, which is very important to me.

not saying anything but maybe it is "hard" because the people doing it are "300 pinters" and therefore anything they try will be"hard". Give a ten year old a question on the prisoners dilemma and they will think it is hard, give it to a thick arts student and he will find it easy and then go around telling people about and think he is smart and in the Martix....

No. just torture to listen to.

Took you until now to decide you needed to change direction, and even now you don't know how to do the deed.
