Check the mailbox folks, beta invites have been sent

Few of the lads I know got one, none for myself but I've got nothing but abuse from the lads. Was in a friends house there and his arrived, logged into mine to find nothing, gutted

Holla if you got one :D

No go between myself and my brother sadly. Was hoping being an '08 account, nearly 4300 posts on the forums, one of the major instigators of the Jedi Sage name change and a CE Preorder I'd get one but I guess not.

Nothing here, but delighted to see they're finally going out to Europe. Maybe soon...

Nope, didnt get one. Not sure i want to either. Been in a few beta's, and it can lower my expectations for a game. I'd rather wait till release and be dissapointed then :pac:

Got mine, honestly don't even know if I'll play it.

The whole real life money for items thing has me put off D3 right now, but I may give it a shot down the line.

On the plus side, this means I've been on every beta since WoW's beta. Not bad :pac:

D3? Diablo 3? This is The Old Republic beta thread...

This is what happens when I post on forums within 30 minutes of waking up.

On the plus side, I appear to have my D3 invite early :D

    But no TOR invite :-(

Anyone know if they send them out continuously or it's just blocks of them once every week? Alternatively I suggest we group up and raid BioWare's office in Galway, I'm sure at least one of them will drop a beta invite.

You only got up at 2pm and you have a Diablo 3 beta invite...

    I hate you :(

I'd say its done in waves so there isnt a mass influx of people. Typically in betas every next block is larger then before to start stressing the hardware and forecast for Q management and performance.

Ugh, had seven new emails sitting in my inbox a few minutes ago, praying that one was a beta invite. No joy again sadly.

Im getting one next week through different means :)

Well BioWare have really managed to stir themselves up a ****storm today.

Based on a tweet from SR, we've basically been told that not only are beta weekends not simultaneous between EU and US, but that EU guild and individual testing are essentially still completely up in the air as to when they'll occur. A lot of players are even beginning to question whether we'll see simultaneous release dates for the EU and US or whether it'll be staggered. It's even more ridiculous that our vaunted EU Community Manager hasn't said a word, but then this is essentially an identical reaction to when the preorders were done.

    Full thread here.

Doc can you confirm your friends have actually got beta and are testing on European servers or are testing and are on American ones ?

O not sure actually, all I know is the IM's, texts and phonecalls I get from them asking am I jealous yet.... :(

They are giving it really good feedback, really impressive according to themselves.

Awesome, almost makes the jealousy bearable. ;)

I've been expecting a later release date for the EU all along, let's just hope it isn't the 3 month gap that EU players had to wait when WOW was released first.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

I saw a post somewhere that there will be a Tuesday/Friday stagger of the games launch, due to when new game day is in different countries, but outside of that it'll be a simultaneous launch.

Herd that too, think word state side is the mass invites for final testing will be in mid to late sept once they get the feedback / bug tweaks from that your talking about mid to late oct for early game access with game launch probably nov (that's all speculation id like to point out)... plus i work for the company that's putting in the datacenter for bioware (ssshhh) :D with the amount of kit they got coming in i imagine its going to take time to tweak all this stuff.

    It'll be worth the wait

After about 2,500 posts in EU-related threads for two solid days we managed to a response out of Reid which wasn't just (or at least, wasn't all just) "Soon/we're not talking about that right now":

    - Launch will be the same week for both NA/EU with a Tuesday release for NA and a likely Friday for EU (hopefully GAME preorders might snag an earlier one).

    - Headstart appears to still be simultaneous, although Reid also seemed to hint later that they may be broken up by release territory.

    - BioWare as still "discussing" whether or not EU headstart will be extended to cover the difference between headstart end and proper launch. Again later however he seemed to say that headstart will end at launch.

    - EU testing (regular and guild) are still "soon", beta weekends for EU are still also "soon".

    - Didn't know whether or not BioWare would be using the same datacenter currently used for what's left of WAR's servers (He didn't actually understand why that was relevant).

    - Feels that dropping big announcements like red/green zones and EU not being simultaneous for just about everything with the US through twitter while at games shows represents "fair and open communication".

    That was pretty much it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

Well, if our headstart hits at the same time, and is just longer than in the US, then it does somewhat reduce the problems of the 4 day launch gap. And also lets it lord it over people more. =p.

Really hope they don't just give us a 3 day headstart before a friday launch though. Midweek early access would be kinda a dick move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭ZeitgeistGlee

Indeed Raph, to be honest I'm not really going to try to be sure of anything until it's put down in black and white.

Apparently weekend beta invites have started going out in the US as of yesterday for this weekend. It'll be a different bunch of invitees for each weekend. Do not know what the story is with EU testing, have read a rumour that a wave of full beta EU invites is going out soon, which will be testing against US servers.

For EU invites, the word is soon. From the info that the EU guy up in Galway has given, it's looking like a November release. They will eventually allow us to test on EU servers, but it kinda looks like the infrastructure just isn't ready at the moment, which is why we are testing on the US side.

Itching to try this game out, doubt I'll get an invite though.

Stephen Reid said this on twitter, he said fingers crossed because people who got into the weekend beta are having problems downloading the client, but if the invites go out today good luck to all of you lets hope bioware gives us Irish some love :p

Apparently there's been an issue with the EU beta (quelle surprise) and it might be a while before few see any beta invites sent out. Crossing my fingers I see something.

Got my beta invite this morning, for that hugely hyped EA/Bioware MMO.

Yep, my Wrath of Heroes beta invite.

You're an evil man Raph. (No beta invite for me yet :( )

Supposedly EU beta invites are going out this morning (US time), so perhaps by 4pm or so lady luck might smile on some of us.

Based on watercooler it'll be later this evening, if not tonight that invites actually start going out so you might as well leave the F5 button alone for now.

Everytime my phone has told me I have gotten an email today I have excitedly checked. It has not been a TOR beta invite. This is going to give me a coronary.

After a lengthy discussion here at the BioWare offices, the decision has been made to postpone the proposed Game Testing invites for EU players for a number of reasons.

Firstly, there’s a new build of the game on the horizon. This is a major build, meaning there will be character wipes and a new client to download. As you may be aware, the current client download is around 27GB in size. If we were to invite players en masse today, those players would have to download the entirety of the client to access the game. There’s every chance that later this week, the service will go offline and this new version will be rolled out, meaning everyone currently in Testing will have to not only download the entire client again (another 27GB download), but will also have their characters erased and have to start afresh. This is a relatively large amount to download in such a short space of time and not an experience we want new testers to be exposed to.

Secondly, this new build will bring about the first localised versions of Star Wars: The Old Republic, which means those of you that speak French and German will have the chance to play the game in those languages, for the first time ever. We’re extremely excited to be able to offer this to our players and as such, we’re keen to get a lot of feedback from European testers in particular.

For those of you that may have missed the messages we put out on the subject already, last week saw a number of issues arise with key systems that prevented us from sending out invites to EU players. Had everything gone to plan, we would have been able to offer two weeks of testing time to new users. However, given the issues that arose, this was physically not possible.

So while we understand that this news may not be what a lot of you wanted to hear today, we hope that you’ll understand our position. Given the news of this new build, it’s now more important than ever that we invite European players into the Game Testing environments, so you have my word that this batch of invites will happen, it may just mean you just have to wait a little longer.

It’s also important to remember this is just the beginning. In the future, we’ll be inviting more and more testers to the EU Game Testing environments as well as future Game Testing weekends. So even if you’re not invited to this next round of testing, there will still be plenty of chances to get involved.

As ever, as soon as I get any firm news around the matter, I’ll make sure to update everyone.

****ed over again, why am I not even in the least bit surprised.

I just wish they'd told us this Friday (because there's no way this is something which only materialised this morning) instead of getting the EU community's hopes up that we'd actually get a chance to beta when promised.

Honestly I wouldn't care if I had to download two clients in the space of a week, that's why I got a ridiculously fast, high download limit broadband package in the first place.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

27gb download for a beta? Good luck with that...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

I imagine it was bureacracy - friday to yesterday afternoon was taken up by meetings and arguments over whether they should or not. That or the technical issue took longer to fix. I can understand the call they made, even though I'd have rathered they went the other way. Hopefully the new version drops this week or early next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭ZeitgeistGlee

I don't know Raph, you're probably right but after all the debacles BioWare has had with non-NA communications I'm just not prepared to take them at their word any more.
