    - Thanks to Melody for the following WWE SmackDown spoilers from tonight's tapings in Sacramento, California. These will air this Friday on SyFy:

    * Triple H opens the show and announces Randy Orton vs. The Great Khali, Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio and Cody Rhodes vs. Ezekiel Jackson with the Intercontinental Title on the line for tonight. World Heavyweight Champion Christian comes out and wants to talk to the WWE COO. Christian threatens to sue Triple H if he doesn't change the SummerSlam match against Randy Orton. Triple H says Christian has no respect and will still face Orton on Sunday and be in action tonight.

    * Sheamus beat Christian by count out. Christian walked off and stood at the ramp as the referee counted him out.

    * Natalya and Beth Phoenix beat AJ Lee and Kaitlyn. Face pop for Beth and Natalya here. Beth pinned AJ while Natalya put Kaitlyn in the Sharpshooter.

    * Backstage segment with Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes arguing with Teddy Long. Zack Ryder and Aksana are there.

    * Backstage segment with Mark Henry and Johnny Curtis.

    * Sin Cara beat Tyson Kidd in a decent match. Hard to tell if Cara is someone else under the mask. Cara came out to a huge reaction.

    * Alberto Del Rio beat Daniel Bryan by submission in a great match. Cheers for Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez before the match. Wade Barrett came out and attacked Bryan after the match.

    * Cody Rhodes beat Ezekiel Jackson to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion after hitting Cross Rhodes.

    * Backstage segment with Randy Orton talking about SummerSlam and tonight's match.

    * Mark Henry beat Johnny Curtis. Sheamus came out after the match and confronted Henry.

    * Randy Orton beat The Great Khali after an RKO. Christian came out and taunted Orton after the match, saying he's the best thing going.

whoever was filling in as Sin Cara can't have done any worse of a job

If they are going to try use someone else as the Sin Cara character it makes a mockery of the wellness suspension.

Sure, this isn't the first time someone has done pretended to be Sin Cara. But you'd all know that if you watched the Dirtsheet Dave videos...

Seems like a good Smackdown, but why have Rhodes vs Jackson now instead of Summerslam?

    Either way go Cody!

It strikes me both Rhodes/Jackson and Morrison/Truth from Raw were intially being built as Summerslam matches but for whatever reason, WWE decided to cut them both from the PPV and add them to the go home shows.

There's been talk Cena/Punk could go ages, and I'm calling now that after replicating the start of Summer of Punk angle from ROH, Punk is going to want to go for a hour draw with Cena at Summerslam...

An hour draw would be incredible!

JP Liz will be delighted with that she was suggesting they do this for weeks. Still don't get the lack of unannounced matches. I think Truth vs Morisson isn't happening just because of Melina. Del Rio got a great pop but there isn't one hispanic wrestler on the card sunday with Sin Cara(the real one) suspended & Mysterio injured they should have Del Rio on the card, beyond what happens after any title matches.

Can't say I expected much from Jackson's reign. I guess my expectations were met.

I am glad about the title change as:

    a) it is on an actual wrestling wrestler

    b) WWE isnt doing a Crimson with Zeke as they have realised he isnt over a lick.

Hopefully they have plans for Cody to have good match at Summerslam.

Yay that Zeke has dropped the IC title to Cody :)

Has the COO dropped the brands divide since again Raw stars are on Smackdown

Sin Cara made his return last night at the Smackdown tapings…Well, the Sin Cara character made its way back. Its definitely not Mistico. He looks slightly taller and his body is a little different to that of Mistico’s. It looks a little closer to Hunico.

Why did they bring Sin Cara back a week or two early. Are they thinking of replacing Mistico with this new guy?

The primary reason given is that they were in Sacramento, a hugely hispanic town and they wanted to sell a tonne of Sin Cara merch.

No, 14 years ago, a title wouldnt have been won on a normal show.

From the video the new guy can hit that trampoline flip better.

IC title changes on TV 14 years ago:
Rocky Maivia February 13, 1997 Lowell, MA Thursday Raw Thursday

Owen Hart April 28, 1997 Omaha, NE Raw is War

Owen Hart, April 1st, 1997 at Raw is War.
HHH, October 21st 1996, at Raw is War.
And before that Marc Mero, Goldust, Razor Ramon. Marty Jennetty was the first to do it on Weekly TV. Mr Perfect won it on WWF Superstars in 1990.

right, now that newballsplease's opinion has been ridiculed and batted away, let's move on.

Has a mid-card title has changed hands right before a PPV? I'm sure it's happened more recently - the only one i can think of is HHH beating Owen for the European title right before WMXIV.

Thanks for posting those pics of Sin Cara rovert. Shocked WWE actually did it (put someone else under the mask). Also impressed of how similar he is to Sin Cara. Maybe it's the outfit and shady lighting, i'm sure since he hasn't been in WWE long that Mistico best beware!

I can't fathom why WWE put R-Truth going over Lil Jimmy clean on RAW, and the title switch on SD, and not at SummerSlam. Anyone hazard a guess?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,089 ✭✭✭✭rovert

He isnt that similar at all his far taller and bigger. Also no one really can do Mistico's distinct movements, style and moves.

That said the new Sin Cara got over and no one in the crowd was the wiser.

Yep. If nobody noticed in the crowd then he's similar enough height & weight. I wonder if we weren't in the internet age that anyone would've actually noticed!

Don't confuse people who know Mistico beforehand with the WWE audience, who are only versed with Sin Cara (myself included). He's been in WWE for so short a time that his body movements and style haven't been recognised or set.

Did'nt the Miz become US Champ before the ppv Fatal 4 Way , in a fatal 4 way match?

Just watched Smackdown there, gotta love it being aired early in different timezones. Wasn't bad except for HHH's pointless promo at the start where he essentially just does Teddy Long's job. Some serious audio editing and adding of canned crowd noises for when he mentioned Cena as well.
Hopefully Sheamus wins on Sunday. Interesting to see home not losing to the World Champion and a decent pop for him. A bit disappointing to see Bryan tap to Del Rio though, but I like Del Rio so it's not too bad I guess.
Christian's little bit at the very end was sort of odd but seems to hint that maybe there might be something unexpected coming on Sunday...

I like The Bigger Sin Cara better.

Sin Cara is the new Suicide. Different guy under the mask every few months. Somebody tell Christopher Daniels, he might finally get that WWE contract :pac:

One step away from Curry Man at Wrestlemania :P:pac:

    I heard whispers of a
    Brock Lesnar
return. But, the lad I heard it from wouldn't be a serious smark, so I didn't take it seriously. I thought he was still too ill for anything like that anyway.

No thats garbage he'll likely be in the new Videogame though. He's earning far more money where he is than he would in wwe.

Not happening as of a few weeks ago public appearances is the absolute last thing he wants to do. Brock will be in the new Smackdown video game but a primary stipulation to that deal is no PR for it.

Bump this post when he runs in. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Yup, i'd bat it away. Although it's much more likely that Brock will be in a new WWE videogame. I wonder what attire he'll use, UFC and/or WWE's...

As he has at least 2-3 fights left on his UFC contract, he legally CANNOT go anywhere. But it would be amazing if he had another run. I always wanted to see him face HHH.

(You guys don't need to spoiler tag it -- THANK YOU for doing so just in case! - it's merely wishful thinking around the rumour mill)

Let's hope that a mid-card with Cody,Bryan,Sin Cara et al. will produce an actual IC division as opposed to the current pin the tail on the donkey approach.hopefully zeke will be the final donkey and we get a decent run with Cody.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,289 ✭✭✭parker kent

Plus didn't Lesnar have major surgery recently? Not happening.

Maybe Edge will do a run-in since he'll be at the Fan Axxess thing. Or else a Tomko type bodyguard. I can see whatever it is blowing up in Christian's face too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

I can't see them using Edge to help a heel Christian retain. Plus the fact he already helped him win at Extreme Rules, but who knows, anything could happen.
