howya im just wondering does anyone do planche puchups?, how did you progress, while i appreciate its a very demanding exercise is it a good thing to have in your routine or is it more of a party trick!! im currently working on ten handstand pushups and well this caught me eye!!

    Very difficult exercise to achieve.
I found it vey taxing on the wrists due to the positioning of the hands closer to the waist.
Hand stand push ups are fairly easy in comparison and an equally effective party trick.

There's a bit on them here. Very demanding and difficult to work up to, but if you're committed and put the work in there's no reason why you shouldn't get to them eventually. A friend of mine has been trying to get to them for nearly a year, he can do some pretty impressive stuff, but isn't ready for the planche yet. He recommends gymnastics forums for tips, since that sort of work is their bread and butter.

Never done them but by looking at it I'd imagine you'd need considerable strength in the wrists, especially your flexors to stop you falling on your face. It looks like a close grip push up suspended, so I'd say you could work on them, maybe one leg off the ground, or provide instability in your hand placement. Handstand push-ups would help but are'nt directly linked. I could be wrong but IMO I'd do close grip push-ups, working more and more weigth onto your wrists, and if your core is strong enough you'lll be able to suspend yourself. fair balls to ya if... WHEN you pull it off!

Probably the one thing that stood out & agreed with when reading the article linked in bush's post was when he said about 'Concentration & Muscle Focus'. Makes a huge difference in performing the exercises if you really concentrate on activating all the different muscles involved at the right time, which is alot of effort in itself when you start out. Iv been able to get into doing tucked planche pushups but doing straddle pushups involves alot of hamstring strength (and flexibility overall).
