For him to say it's the best week of his life !!! Ah jaysus ....after 13 majors... Maybe it's me but I think this has taken away from Scott's win. The attention should be on him not Williams...
Can't wait for Williams autobiography. I'd say it scary stuff,spit-roasting ,tag teaming , women everywhere etc etc ha ha :):D:)

Oh Christ if I hear one more thing about Steve Williams I think I'll puke. Who the f&*k does this guy think he is ?

Some of his comments in the last week or so have been laughable.
You carry a bag for god sake - you do realise the player actually hits the ball !!!

    Get over yourself.

Not a fan as ye can tell :D

Always thought the guy was a bellend. This just confirms it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

Obviously don't know the guy personally but it would appear the lad needs someone to tell him to STFU. Apparently he is loved in NZ. Does loads for charity etc but, fair enough he might have a gripe with Tiger, but give it a rest, sometimes keeping stum is best policy.

V well played Adam Scott, delighted for him. Seems a true gent on/off the course.

typical kiwi, trying to take the aussies limelight! but seriously, needs to get over it, people get fired, happens, circumstances tough usually or not fair, its part of life, just sounds bitter now. He would be no where without tigers success

em bit of a stretch - he was greg norman then ray floyd's caddy before tiger and was considered one of the best in the game.

williams's description of himself in his post round interview

    "a good front-runner when I'm caddying."

    thats some funny ****

You can't blame David Feherty for asking for the interview, lots of people were interested in hearing from Stevie after he was sacked by Tiger. Also, I don't think you can blame Stevie for agreeing to be interviewed. In fairness, he spent the last 15 years or so saying no to interview requests, this appears to have been a one off interview.

He is obviously still pretty angry about getting sacked by Tiger. 15 years loyal service and he gets sacked over the phone. By all accounts he was sacked because of perceived disloyalty because he caddied a few times for Scott towards the end of Woods hiatus from the game. In truth, he was let down badly by Woods. These guys are paid based on winnings made by their employers. If his boss if off work for most of the last few years (injuries, scandals etc.), you can hardly blame him for trying to earn some money to pay the bills.

Don't get me wrong, some of the stuff he said was cringeworthy. "I'm a great front runner etc.". However, overall I think he was right to get those things off his chest.

He is obviously a great caddy. Golfers like Scott can be a bit mentally fragile at times, in a game of small margins the caddy can make that extra 5% difference that turns a top 10 into a win.

He was sacked via an announcement on Woods' website. He(Woods)didn't even have the decency to say it to his face. And he never did interviews before, cos he was told not to by Woods.

    wrong. imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,655 ✭✭✭kingshankly

what an a hole he made millions with woods and without woods would be just another caddy.
he should be indebted to woods not slating him.

You see to me that reads as if all was not well in the Williams/Tiger camp to begin with. Shurly he would have gave a quick call and say " Hey I'm going to change things up" if they were on good speaking terms.

The fact that Williams was off with Scott before the announcement has me thinking he already knew the axe was falling ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,990 ✭✭✭Trampas

usa media wanted this. I blame them.

when have you ever heard the caddy been interviewed after a round?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Mizuno Man

Don't really think it can be said that Williams would be a nobody without Woods. He is a fantastic caddy. He is understandably upset over how the split was handled.

All the same, the interview sounded like a first date where the other person spends the whole evening talking about their ex and how much of an arse he was and how much nicer you seem to be compared to him.

Took away from Scotts performance entirely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 373 ✭✭Iceboy

Stevie's comments were a bit out of order but I can understand his frustration, he has been with Tiger for 15 years and has always stayed loyal to him through all his troubles and now suddenly out of the blue Tiger dumps him for no reason really. " I'm a good front runner '' was hilarious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,893 ✭✭✭alxmorgan

I heard an interview with Williams on NZ radio where he said he told Tiger that he had to earn back his respect after all that had happened

Are you for fing real lad !?!?

What he does off the course should be irrelevant given all the money he made you on it. I would have given him the road the second the words came out of his mouth. Bellend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

We are all talking about the caddy and not a mention of the guy who did the hard work.

    Say's it all really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 160 ✭✭Iangolf

Just a comment on how he was fired, it was in a phone call, not on tigers website as previously mentioned, Williams is obviously a good caddy and it does help in golf but he seems to think he is bigger than the golfers.

He did well to get on Greg Normans bag all those years ago, and if you're caddying for the best in the world, people assume you must be great too. An obnoxious tool by all accounts.

Tiger said they had a meeting at the end of a tournament a few weeks back and they decided to go seperate ways, think it was at the AT AND T.Half to say i never liked Williams and the way he acted last night was terrible.

People get sacked...maybe the massive pile of money he earned when with woods will help him sleep at night.

Came off like a child last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

Yeah Im torn now, really like Scott as a golfer and have followed he's career very closely, had a few quid on aswell:D, but the carry on of that other egotisical twat last night I nearly fooked the remote at the tv, I'd actually nearly love to see Tiger win the PGA to shut him up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭0161allin

I think williams is a Twat, he likes himself to much and last night between sky and the american broadcasters they would sicken your hole going on about it, i think it totally took away from Adams win which was fantastic he's prob one of the best ball strikers on tour at the minute and the guy played so well all week and had been chomping at the bit these last few weeks and was prob going to win soon anyway so he won it regardless of Steve the super caddie im just a caddie shut my mouth Williams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

    Watching on twitter today
Jay Townsend was saying how very valuable a good caddy is(no doubting he has to stick to his guns re:Rory bashing)

Denis Pugh made a very simple point
How stupid would a swing coach have looked coming out after the win saying "I'm a great front runner" after one of his pupils winning !!

Williams is a pity .....well done Adam

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,957 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Williams is an odious piece of work, always has been and always will.
He got too big for his boots ,Tiger was well within his rights to dump him.

Williams is an odious piece of work
+1. He's an egomainiac. Being the caddy for the best golfer in the world doesn't make you a superstar, it makes you an employee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,655 ✭✭✭kingshankly

and the amount of times he mentioned his racing and how he loves to win at that and he's a great front runner when racing.
wtf had that to do with golf

Glad to see the way this thread has gone TBH. Thought I would be the only one thinking Williams was a bit off the mark (and that was before the interview heard he snubbed Tiger on the range).

I think Woods carried himself well all weekend. He is obviously very optimistic about how things are going.

He was sacked via an announcement on Woods' website. He(Woods)didn't even have the decency to say it to his face. And he never did interviews before, cos he was told not to by Woods.

He is the richest sportsman in New Zealand BECAUSE of Tiger Woods. If Tiger told him to cut his front lawn with a hand scissors he should've done it with a big f*ckin smile on his face... He carries a bag of golf clubs for a living - he has become more unlikable (and he was always unlikable) by the day since this whole thing kicked off and I, for one, am sick of hearing and reading about the w*nker.

To be honest, I think he might prove to be a bad match for Scott. Scott is quite quiet and says very little - I'm not sure how comfortable he'll be with this mouthpiece on his bag, going forward.

I wouldn't mind, Scott was playing his best golf in some years long before Williams lucked into a great job with a golfer who was due a big win.

    Thats spot on !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,893 ✭✭✭alxmorgan

Anyone hear Ken Early going off on Williams on Off The Ball ? :D
Classic Ken and he was spot on
Was worse than Gerard Houllier taking credit for Liverpools champions league in 2005.

They were saying when Ken throws a wobbler there's normally a 50-50 split for and against him. But on this occasion its 99.9% for Ken. Or against Williams

How the man can do an interview and barely mention the golfer who actually played the tournament is beyond me. What a muppet - made an absolute fool of himself.

If he had just said it was all Adam and if he could help even a little then he'd be happy he could have been the bigger man but no - bellend

Exactly! That's the hilarious thing: Williams could've come out this looking very well indeed - but money cant buy class & that toerag may have plenty of the former but he has none of the latter.

Thank you Steve Williams, thank you for ending all the speculation and demonstrating to the world precisely why Tiger fired your sorry ass. You are the caddy, not a 'star' in your own right, you are not one half of a duo, there is one master and you do his bidding. Pick up the bag and shut the f*ck up, you should count your lucky stars you had 15 years with one golfer who made you a wealthy man. If you want to be the star then get your own set of clubs and practice hard. Nice way to overshadow your new boss' biggest win in years with your graceless drivel, any more of that and Scott will send you packing aswell.

It'd take a lot for me to hate a guy that made me a millionaire.. Steve Williams should take a look around at where he lives, the living standard of his family, and the money he has in his bank account ... and start to show a bit of humility and gratitude to the man who stuffed his pockets full of cash ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,030 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

I honestly don't think Williams could have come out of this looking any worse. Absolute tool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭Plentyofice

This may sound strange but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Scott's agents etc etc are seriously thinking of reprimanding or telling him to F~ck off. What would Chubby Chandler do to someone like him ??
Never before ever have you seen a tournament where they interview the caddy first !!!

I think it will all end in tears with him and Scott, I really do. He just doesn't seem like Scott's kinda guy at all, as far as I'm concerned. The idiots on Sky Sports were speculating during the week if Williams' "tough guy" mentality might be effective in "bullying" Scott into winning more often... Adam Scott was, I'm sure, down as low as No 3 (certainly top five) in the World at one stage and has won several big tournaments. He doesn't need this moron to show him how to win or play golf.

I agree William's made more than a bit of an eegit out of himself with the interview but I think the value of a good caddy is being underestimated a little here.
I don't have any liking for the guy but I was watching his approach as much as I could on the telly. He's obviously a very confident person with more than a little arrogance.
I know he doesn't hit the ball but with his confident approach to everything that confidence has to rub off on whoever he is caddying for. The fact of the matter is that while Scott may have been due a big win he hadn't yet delivered, William's could well have been the difference.
I will be watching Scott with great interest in the coming weeks to see if he can win regularly enough. Is it not possible that some of Woods' success was down to the approach of his caddy? I'm not suggesting that Woods wouldn't be one of the best players ever but that he might have won "only" maybe 4 or 5 majors. Only time will tell I suppose.

If you believe the caddy might have made the difference in as many as TEN of the 14 Majors that Tiger Woods has won then I'm going to have to disagree with you about as strongly as anyone can possibly disagree with anything.

And you may be right to disagree so strongly. I just believe strongly that succeeding in any sport and especially golf is predominantly having the right mental approach to the game. I think Williams is a great man for that, and there's no sport like golf which benefits so much from having the right man beside you. It's not just carrying a bag.
I will be watching Woods and Scott with great interest.

well he didnt hit a ball so he didnt win a thing, in my opinion, he only said those things out of spite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭mags1962

Both Woods and Williams are Bellends but he was justified in having a go at Woods as the caddies never get a forum to speak their minds and he was treated badly. Would you all accept a sacking from your boss in this manner especially if you were a big part of their success. The caddies are treated in general as second class people in golf all the time, not allowed into the clubhouse, working on yardages while the player rests, making their own travel arraingements, humping all the players gear and food etc around the course, raking the bunkers and clearing up after them.
Good on him nothing wrong with free speech and especially after the censorship of the Tiger machine.

Not as if Williams has not got previous form with Ray Floyd and Greg Norman.
Would like him to rub Woods nose in it.

In fairness, Scott is unlikely to have a go at him in the press, it wouldn't make the walk on Thursday that comfortable.
