Rate of weight loss and dress sizes!

To all the ladies / peeps in general who have ever tried to fit into something!
I'm on a diet at the minute, I only started about 2 weeks ago but I feel I'm getting on great with it. I'm already feeling a difference in my clothes etc. I was a size 16 for ages and recently I needed an 18 in some things (depending on shops and fits, jeans in particular).
Now well as that may be, my dilemma at the minute is that I have my graduation at the end of October and I have found the dress I want. I want to buy it by the beginning of september because (a) I have a discount card that lasts until then and (b) I don't want the dress to go out of stock before I can get it. Only question is, what size to buy?
Just to paint the picture, in the two weeks I have been on this diet, I have lost an inch on my upper arms, 2 inches around my stomach, 2-3 around my waist and 1 on each thigh. I have been eating a scrambled egg on unbuttered wholemeal toast for breakfast, a ham, low fat cheese and salad wrap for lunch, and either chicken and veg with rice or pasta or a weight watchers meal for dinner. I might snack on a fat free yogurt or fruit and have allowed myself a bit of chocolate here and there. I have taken Saturdays off and allowed myself to have a nice dinner and drinks with my boyfriend. I feel great (especially just after measuring myself there and seeing what I've lost!!), I'm never hungry, and seeing a difference.
So anyway to the point, I'm wondering if it's possible that I could be down to a size 14 by the end of October, or am I completely overestimating? I don't want to buy a 14 and not fit into it for my graduation, but I don't want to buy a 16 and then it always be too big, as I intend on once and for all losing all the extra weight I'm carrying.
Basically I'm just wondering how fast others have seen a difference in their sizes, and wondering if my goal is possible or if I'm being unrealistic. I know that what the rest of ye have experienced may not be the same as for me, but I'm just interested in what ye reckon and how ye have gotten on with weightloss before, speed wise.
PS I'm going by measurements as I have no head for weight at all!

I've been losing weight since Easter when I joined weightwatchers cos truth be told I have the willpower of a flea left to my own devices but give me something like that where I am "accountable" and my willpower takes on a life of it's own!

Anyways to date I've lost 25 pounds, I would have been a cushy size 18 starting, it took a good stone before I saw any great difference in clothes size and now I can finally say I'm a size 16, and 16's particularly in trousers are getting loose around the bum but my tummy isn't ready for 14's yet!

I would imagine if you keep going with the diet, throw in brisk walking a few days a week you'll definitely see the difference by end October. walking is great for toning up.

I would ditch the WW ready meals though to be honest, they're not the most filling or the healthiest.

Hope it goes well for you!

    Hi The Cool,

The general guidance is that to change a dress size is to lose/gain 10 lbs so to go from 16 (upper end of the size, if you are buying some 18s) to 14, middle of the size to allow for smaller sizing, is needing to lose about 12 pounds I'm guessing. Also, healthy weight loss is 1lb a week so yes, I think you could do it!

Obviously, not knowing your build or anything, this is just a very wide guesstimate but I'd go for the size 14 dress, if only to give yourself extra motivation!!

    Good luck.

What you could do is buy the dress in a 16 and get it taken in a week before the graduation - that way it should fit you perfectly. Something to think about is that if you lose a lot of weight, clothes might hang a different way on you, so the perfect dress now might not actually suit you brilliantly in a couple of months.

Well done on the progress so far. Not to be negative, but you might be aware that the rate at which you lose weight tends to slow down after the first few weeks. If you get stuck at a certain weight after a while, shock your body into action by cutting down on carbs - get rid of the wrap at lunchtime and reduce pasta/rice at dinner (but eat more meat/veg/salad to feel full for longer).

    Good luck!
