Golf - PGA Championship 2011

Placed on the 5th of Aug, those on Twitter will have seen it -

    Watney @ 28/1
    Day @ 33/1
    Scott @ 33/1
    Toms @ 66/1
    Jacobsen 80/1
    Love III @ 100/1
    Ryo 125/1

Majority of them have regularly featured in my betting this year so no real surprises. Ryo finding form again, I couldn't say no as those who know me know much I rate the kid and want him to do well. Ryo was someone who featured in my betting a couple of years ago in every major though.

Fowler and Toms were really tempting. Toms playing on a course where he won his one and only major on, coupled with this weeks performance where he played solidly. Fowler, I really believe he'll win a major and many tour events after his breakthrough. Doing well on such a technical course as Firestone, re-instils my confidence in that. But I had too many bets I wanted to place this week.

Don't think Day has the temperament to win a major yet. I could be wrong but thats the impression I get

Day's finish at the masters leads me to believe he could definitely win a major. I'm backing Dustin Johnson for this though

mcilroy @10s mickelson @ 16s and johnson @22s.5ew on each

I agree with you on Toms

Here is interesting stat I came across

-Since the Firestone based tournament became the PGA ‘warm up’ in 2006, the winner of the PGA Championship has always been in the field and has always finished in the Top 25 of the Bridgestone.

    Gary Woodland
    Adam Scott
    Frederick Jacobson

Anyone know how many place ladbrokes pay ? can't seem to find it on the website !

Just going through exchanges and Molder at 679/1(could get higher) seems like huge price for back/lay fans.

Word around is that Atlanta Atlethic club could play similarly to the WGC Bridgestone. Premium will be on long iron approaches and greens are set to run fast. Jason Day (25) is the outstanding value pick for me. Not lacking in confidence, no obvious weakness in his game, big hitter, lover of tough courses and bang in form. Putter was looking in great shape at the Bridgestone.

Full picks / info here for anyone interested.

it is nothing like firestone it has long rough and a 260 yard par3 if you go in rough you will be lucky to make 6 or 7

I have not decided on my picks yet but usually someone in the golf threads picks the winner so I may just follow a few.
I wont get the time to do research this week but goodluck folks :)

Nah I didn't man. I didn't expect him to crumble so easily a couple of weeks back in that final round, and that put massive doubts on him. I was fair sure someone of his ability and confidence would have gone onto win that tbh. So I backed out. He was driving and putting like a demon though, very impressive in the first 3 rounds. I like Kim and think he's well capable of winning a Major in the future, certainly pre-injury but until he does well again on a Sunday I'll be avoiding him.

I've gone past my usual 5 bets for Majors anyway now after adding Toms and Ryo.

yeah i think he has the game myself..but not sure if now is the right time, more of a trade option then leave to win.

his interview before that final round last week was'nt a confident one..said he's still getting to grips with his swing..but times during the rounds he has serious doubts over it..that's not a good outlook to have, especially as he was in the driving seat with the final round only minutes away!!

agree..if taking him to win..id be waiting until he closes out a sunday also mate.

As someone who has had a couple of serious wrist injuries like Kim, I know where he's coming from. A lot of doubt can come into play at times on the course, took me a year to really get over my wrist break. I was astonished by his performance in the Open a month ago namely because of the rough.

As you said, trading is the option to go with him.

    USPGA

    Main Picks

    Rickie Fowler Win
Getting closer and closer to that breakthrough victory, solid enough last week and could go one step better and win this.

    Cameron Tringale Win/Place
Been solid enough the last few weeks, getting closer and closer to victory, although this may be a step up in class his price is well worth a gamble for someone very much in form.

    Other Picks

    Ryan Moore Win/Place
    Martin Laird Win/Place

    All small stakes!

    Good Luck Everyone :D

expecting the usual zero return as with most majors

I think he one if not the most underrated player around. Like you say his price could be big come Sunday, but I think he may find few bit too good this week..

But Golf is funny one at times.

big price ok, though he hasn't made a cut since june,
is he a Bermuda specialist?? my stats on east coast bermuda has him with no top 3 finishes in over 30 starts

    Fun bets;
    O'Hair at 125/1
    Watson at 50/1
    Poulter at 150/1

    All 3ew

Looks a bit trickey,McIlroy,Donald and Westwood dominate the market at skinny enough prices. The pga often throws up some real outsiders at 200 and 300 to 1 and it might be worth waiting to see if any of the above trio have a sluggish start and then laying them. There should be some opportunities to make a few bob laying over the 4 days.Just 1 win bet a tenner on Aaron Baddeley 120 on bf if he can straighten out his driving he may be in with a shout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,762 ✭✭✭jive

Lay Woods top5 @ 7.6 ... Not hitting it well enough off the tee for him to do well this week unless he has rectified his problems between Sunday and now. I'll take my chances with this one but you never know with Woods.

Westwood@ 14/1 e/w (6 places) - hitting it well all year just needs a hot putter for a round or 2 and he'll be there or thereabouts come Sunday
Jason Day @ 28/1 e/w (6 places) - been placing well all year and looks like he has a big win in him

Kuchar@ 5.3 - Top10 - went to college near this course and is extremely consistant. Great price for a top10 on someone who is surely familiar with the course.

Tempted by Fowler e/w but have enough on already. The last time I said this was about McIlroy at the US Open :pac:

There's so many interesting bets there but i'm gonna restrict myself to 20 euro anyone wanna make up my mind for me :pac:

Added Dyson 160 and stallings 480 a fiver on each with bf,hopefully a quick lay will get me in profit if any of them perform and now that the fun is taken care of i will wait for events to unfold before i dip into the lay market. This might be the week to concentrate on hovering up small amounts on no hopers who are well off the pace.
