Thought I might as well start a match thread for the Liverpool V Sunderland match on Saturday which will be the first game of the Premier League season for both clubs :D I'm sure there'll be a lot of interest and pre-match discussion anyway!

The game is starting at the traditional Saturday time of 3pm and is live on Setanta Ireland, Sky Calcio, Viasat and Nova Sports, so for those without Setanta there'll be plenty of streams available.

    Predicted Sunderland line-up:
    Mignolet

    Bardsley Brown Bramble/Ferdinand Richardson

    Larsson Cattermole Gardner Vaughan/Colback Sessegnon

    Gyan

Richardson has a bit of a knock, so if he's out I'd imagine Bardsley will go to LB and Ferdinand (possible Elmohamady either) will play RB. Sessegnon will be allowed to drift and will most likely take a position just off Gyan. Lots of if's there but there's nothing too clear yet until after the first week or two of games.

Any Liverpool fans care to predict their line-up?

Score prediction: I feel we'll keep it tight and hold Liverpool off for around an hour but once the first goes in I can see them adding a second. 2-0 Liverpool.

    Reina

    Kelly Carragher Agger Aurelio

    Henderson Spearing Adam Downing

    Kuyt Carroll

That's how i think Liverpool will line out.

I get the feeling it might come too soon for Lucas but if Kenny feels he's ready swap him for Spearing

I think Suarez may be on the bench just in case

Think Richardson is injured, unfortunately. Apart from Sessegnon and Gyan, the lack of pace throughout the side is a bit worrying. Liverpool will probably get a lot of joy down the flanks.

Will Lucas be going midweek for International game?

Deal for an unnamed striker all but done apparently, hopefully (and presumably) it's Bellamy as he can play on either side of a 4-3-3 and give us an injection of pace!

He'd be a fantastic signing for Sunderland if true

He'd be a massive asset in a tight game with his pace

Agreed. I hope it's him. If we get him in before the weekend he'd be a canny player to bring on about an hour into the game on Saturday.

If it's 0-0 an hour in to the game it would be ideal for him as i'd imagine there would be plenty of space for him to run behind

Just FYI it's on Setanta Sports 1, not Setanta Ireland

    Liverpool win 2-1 IMO

    An outsider's team-sheets prediction:

    Mignolet
    Elmohamody-Brown-Bramble-Bardsley
    Larsson-Vaughan-Cattermole-Gardner-Sessegnon
    Gyan

    Reina
    Kelly-Carragher-Agger-Enrique/Aurelio
    Adam-Lucas
    Kuyt-Henderson/Aquilani-Downing
    Carrol

Hopefully this game isn't postponed because of the riots!

Just stand Martin Skrtel in the Annie Road and even Chuck Norris would think twice.

Looks like an announcement will be made by the Premier League tomorrow regarding this weekends fixtures. Fingers crossed the game is still on!

IF they are announcing tommorrow I would expect games to be called off. Ugh, been waiting ages for this only for a lot of job dodgers to ruin it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,385 ✭✭✭✭D'Agger

Liverpool wouldn't mind having the game pushed back I'd imagine with some of the injury concerns we have, Suarez needs rest etc.

Hope to see an attacking Liverpool with Aquilani playing in midfield. Real chance for him to prove what we seen him do in preseason in the premier league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,080 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

    The team I'd play.

    Reina

    Kelly---Carra---Agger---Aurelio

    Aquilani--Lucas

    ---Kuyt----Suarez----Downing

    Carroll

We will definitely see Adam in there though. And I'm guessing Suarez will be on the bench and Henderson will start.

I think Enrique will be signed by the weekend but too soon to play. It really shows how much we need defensive signings though. We are very weak there.

Would people be expecting Lucas to start? What about Enrique - will his move be done and dusted in time?

Perfect game for Carroll to get off the mark. I'm sure he has no time for Sunderland.

I don't think any Liverpool fan has a clue about what team or formation will start.

Based on Skrtel and more than likely Johnson out, I think he'll go pretty attacking at first:

    Reina

    Kelly---Carra---Agger---Enrique

    Spearing

    ---Kuyt----Adam----Downing

    Suarez everywhere

    Carroll

Agger will be allowed to attack and Spearing sit back at all times. Kuyt for cover for Kelly when he goes forward.

Much more chance of Lucas starting than Suarez methinks.

I think Aurelio will start instead of Enrique & hope Suarez does start but over all i think its a great position to be in that we can actually discuss which good player will start & which may not

Edit:just seen a silly tweet that Aurelio is injured so if true you may be right K-9

Loads of options which is great. Aurelio would be a nailed on starter, at least we don't have to put Agger there and nullify his threat of injury!

Bench: Doni, Flanagan, Soto, Henderson, Maxi, Lucas, Meireles.

I read now that Enrique will start, as will Suarez. Bad news if true from a Sunderland point-of-view!

Where are you hearing this Paully?

A poster on the FF thread, and it's been reported on Twitter. As I said, IF it's true it will be bad news for Sunderland. Fingers crossed there's no truth in it!

Sasquatch its all over twitter with the main source seemingly Dave from TLW (TheLiverpoolWay). He's the guy who reports on lots of youth stuff and would have good links within the clubs so doubt he is blowing smoke. He says Soto, Aquilani and Cole are not in the squad. Enrique, Spearing and Suarez he thinks will start but is only basing that off how they trained today so not 100%.

First I have heard of Johnson starting.

    Opr

Aquilani not in squad?? Not good.

Aurelio injured appaently so Enrique to start

Only worry now is that with so many new signings it might take some time for the team to gel.

And throwing Enrique into the mix wont help that side of things either.

Sunderland have a good few new signings too. I'd be grand with throwing Enrique straight into the mix.

Any links for the game lads?
