Hall of Fame - committee nominees

Following on from the thread made earlier in the year suggesting a Hall of Fame, I decided to go ahead and try and make it a reality. I have already put my proposal through a mod, which was put in the mod forum, and was subsequently approved. My proposal is summed up as follows:

The first step would be to start a committee, and then elect the members of the committee. The committee would consist of 3 other members.
Now the purpose of this committee would be to draw up the parametres under which a player/manager may be inducted, and also include a certain number of players/managers to start off with (e.g. Pelé, Maradona, Best, Michels, etc.). We would of course look at the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB HoFs for guidance.
When that is all sorted a HoF thread will be made, stickied and locked. Then a new post will be added for each inductee with a brief history of the person included. Next we would start a HoF nominee thread, where anyone can comment and give reasons for their nominee. Then, maybe once a fortnight/month (to avoid excess polls) we would start a week long poll on a strong candidate.

Under advice from the mods, the committee will consist of a LoI poster, a PL poster and a non-PL poster, and will be chosen by the forum as a whole. Obviously, each nominee for the committee should be as objective as possible, so take care in nominating. The posters that receive the most nominations shall be put in a poll, and the most voted for will be on the committee. Also, I thought it appropriate to exclude any mod of a busy forum, as they have enough unpaid work to be doing. However, I've thought better of it as the rule would exclude many of the better posters on here. Should any nominated poster (mod or otherwise) be unwilling to be on this committee just let me know by PM.

    Right, let the nominations begin.

I nominate stovelid, he's knowledgeable on the LoI and supports Shamrock Rovers, but he's from Manchester and supports United.

He's also an old geezer, so will have seen live (or live Broadcasts of) more of the kind of players who'd be nominated for the HoF, which I think is important, because, and I mean no offence here, I don't think someone in their early to mid twenties is qualified to judge the likes of Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff, Best. They can't form an objective judgement of these players compared to today's stars, it's impossible. As we all know, anyone can be made look good on YouTube clips.

Cool. I'd like to nominate myself for outstanding contributions to the soccer forum.

I feel that as an objective poster I'd make an excellent candidate for this committee. I have always shown an interest in football history and the all time greats as evidenced by my 'Greatest player of your lifetime' thread I started a few months back.

Thanks for reading and I would appreciate any votes in the poll.

If we're looking for knowledgeable posters then the likes of Paully D, Kess, Mr Alan, Mitch Connor, Pro F, eZe, Slick Ric, El Loco Ade and redout deserve mention, (maybe Kess, eZe, El Loco Ade and redout as RoW nominees).

I would second stovelid as an LOI poster who knows his stuff even if he doesn't like me very much. :pac:

I think for PL poster you should chose from Mitch Connor, Paully D, Mr Alan and Don't be at yourself and eZe would get my vote for ROW.

Paully D and Johner for President(s)

Thanks for the nominations lads, much appreciated. However, I won't have much free time come the end of the month and I won't be on here near as much as I have been during the summer, so for that reason I'll have to say I won't be able to be a part of this and those that have nominated me should choose someone else :)

PHB and archimedes would be good for the PL poster

I'd def nominate Kess and Mike. Two of the better and more frequent posters that don't suffer from the high horse syndrome alot have on here.

Mike65 was around to see their grandparents born. Actually the old Waterford dweller would be a decent choice for a nomination as well.

LOI should defo go to Stovelid imho.

PL and ROW are very hard to pick for as there are, imho, a serious number of posters who would do a great job.

For ROW I would nominate one of Oatsey, Bowkowski, and Raskolnikov. There is another excellent poster whose name escapes me. Dortmund supporter who posts on another site as well as here, and if I think of his name I will add him.

For the PL, I am going to go for Helix, Mitch Connor, Fla, Rarnes, Mrs Alanis, Voltwad, and LZ5by5 Handsome Bob. I picked those because they have all shown good knowledge of the game when debating footy and all are good to disagree with as it tends to make for a reasoned and spirited arguement most of the time.

To be honest I could have picked ten quality posters from the LFC superthread alone such is the choice of quality posters on this forum.

Just had a look through the Bundesliga thread and now I am not sure if it was Lars1916 or not.:D The poster I am thinking of had a Dortmund sig at one time, similar to how Oatsey has a Hamburger SV one.

It was my idea in the beginning even though that link in the op doesn't lead to it.

Only thing about I'd like to add is there should only be one fan per team allowed on the committee. I think it would be fairer that way. You can make the committee any size you want as long as it can't be considered biased by having more than one fan from any club.

For some reason I cant edit the OP, but the original thread (which I tried to link in the OP) is here. And eagle eye, considering the members represent different leagues I'd imagine they support different clubs.

Sorry I mistook what you were saying in the op. Personally I think you should have more than 3 people on that committee. I thought you were saying to have one each from other leagues along with a bunch who support Premier League teams.

Also polling the forum members for a result should not be an option here. You will only end up with a United vs Liverpool thing if you do that as there are way more fans of those two clubs than the rest. Like everytime you have somebody that played for those clubs up there they are going to be top of the list and then if its a case where you have a nomination from only one of those clubs the fans of the other one will vote to try and make sure he doesn't make it in.

IMO the way this should be done is that each committee member puts forward a pre-determined number of nominations at the start of each month. Then each committee member looks at each nominee and decides whether they feel they should be in the hall or not. If the nominee get 80% or above saying he should then he gets in the hall.

You can have a thread set up everytime the nominations are made. This gives the forum members time to discuss what they think of the list of nominees. If a committee members likes to be swayed by others then he can read that thread and take on board what is being said. When the results are in then they can be posted and the forum members again can discuss what they think about it. The forum members outside the committee should never have a say in who is nominated or elected in any given year. You should only be allowed to be a member of the committee for one year. That way everybody on the forum knows they have an opportunity at some stage in the future to be on the committee.

I'd be in favour of a 10 man committee the first year.

Also at the start of this thing two trustees should be elected.

These people will not having any voting rights on the committee. Their job is to receive the nominations from the committee and to send out the list of nominees to the committee for consideration. They will publish the list of who has been nominated and who has been elected to the hall of fame.

The reason for having trustees is that the nominations and votes from the committee should always remain confidential.

I think the trustees have the most important job in this whole thing.

I would suggest that before we start that every current member of the FAI hall of fame should be automatically elected to this. This will save pages upon pages of arguments on the forum imo.

Aren't pages and pages of debate what you would ultimately want to achieve by undertaking such a project on a discussion board?

Is there any reason why it's limited to 3? Because it seems unneccessary. I would add people like Xavi6, Lloyd, SlickRic, Pro.F, Flah and Frisbee to the list as well. There are a good number of posters who really know their football and are able to judge players objectively, and it seems a waste not to use them.

Will be setting up the polls in the next few days, was waiting for the international break. Last chance for any nominations.

Unfortunately redout has left us and Mike65 & Paully D have also ruled themselves out.

    Nominations so far;
PL: SlickRic, Bamboozling, Mitch Connor, Tom_Brady, Flahavaj, Helix, Voltwad, Handsome Bob, smackbunnybaby, Xavi6, Frisbee, Lloyd, opr, k-9, lemlin, eagle eye, ctrl-alt-del
    LoI: Stovelid, Pinturicchio, baz2009
Rest of World: eZê, Kess73, El Loco Ade, Oatsey, Bowkowski, Raskolinov

If anyone above does not wish to be considered let me know.
Also if I have left anyone out (other than the mock nominations!) or put someone in the wrong category let me know please.
