    Hi,

I am curious to know your thoughts on this...

When your alarm goes off in the morning, which of the following do you think is best for your health / well being (short term or long term)

A - jumping out of the bed immediately and getting read for the day ahead
B - hitting snooze on your alarm, then eventually getting up to get ready for the day ahead

Looking forward to your thoughts on this... thanks in advance

Consciousness should be eased into unless you are in immediate mortal danger.

C - not using an alarm and waking naturally

This is fine on days where we do not have to get up for work, but i need to be up at 0645 on work days, so the above scenarios are based on 7.5 - 8 hours sleep and then BOOM... alarm goes off...

There's a clever app called Sleep Cycle if you have a smartphone. Basically it wakes you when you are most "awake" rather than in deep sleep within a 30 minute window. I use it and I find I'm not groggy when it goes off, you wake up feeling refreshed rather than hurling your alarm against a wall.

Jumping out of bed immediately is definitely not good for your health.

Especially if you sleep in a bunk bed.....

Yeah i have used it several times before but i think it is bit of an inconvenience when it wakes you up too early...

It depends on whether or not I've been drinkin the night before!

I used an app on my phone that senses my movements as I sleep. It'll vibrate, flash lights and play a low toned noise at specific times before I want to wake up just to ease me out of a deep sleep.

It actually worked quite well, I didn't feel as grumpy or as stressed getting up and my sleeping patterns were improved.

Unfortunately it was one of those "free" apps that subsequently requires you to buy it after 30 days.

I've found drinking 2 glasses of water before going to bed works better than paying €3 on an app though :)

I came across an article by Mike Boyle some time ago where he went through a day in his life and he believed you should get up the first time the alarm goes off.

The above is the link to article quite a good read for anyone in the fitness profession also.

Usually I get up in a flash as fast as I can as soon as the first beep of the alarm sounds, my eyes aren't even open and I'm up sitting on the bed. I usually sit there for about 5 seconds or so then stand up. Anyone who has seen me waking up thinks it's pure comedy.

It operates within a 30 minute window, worst case scenario you're up (maximum) 30 minutes before you want to be. I find I prefer to do that and feel good in the morning, rather than get the most sleep possible but feel wrecked for an hour or two after waking. Besides, it averages at fifteen minutes roughly, and you can spend that snoozing like a boss.

I just tell myself that I have to get up at a certain time and I'll wake up normally about 15 min before then. I set an alarm and everything but for the past few months I always seem to be waking up before it. Of course since I don't have a job I wake up wonder what to do and then go back asleep, only sometimes.
