iMac WiFi

    Have the iMac since June 2010. WiFi was a bit flaky so I hard-wired it to the router. Broke the LAN connector last week by accident (haven't got around to replacing it) so I'm using WiFi. It's dire to say the least. From taking ages to load some pages (while loading others instantly) to 'not finding the server', it is incredible to see how poorly it behaves.

    And yes, the router's 10 feet away in the hall; I made sure no other WiFi networks are interfering with THIS little Android app.

    It really is dire. I'm on UPC 30 megs - no problem with other wireless devices (iPhone etc) in the house. Just the iMac.

    What model router?

    Have you tried a different band?

    Cisco UPC combined router/modem.

    I know the one.

    Log into it through your web browser by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1. I can't remember exactly.

    Go to wifi configuration page and see can you change the channel to the highest number. If it doesn't improve then change again to see.

    This will eliminate problems due to interference, which is common enough. Interference can come from a lot of things, not just other wifi networks. Have you the router or iMac beside any other electrical equipment?

    Before you do that - have you any issues with other computers or devices connecting to the network?
