Water Coolers in Gyms - Gym Owners!

Gym owner here. We currently provide an onsite water cooler at no charge for members, and also bottled water (charged).

I was wondering if other Gym owners provided onsite water coolers, because in this era of ongoing cost cutting I am looking at things such as this, particularly if I can't find a damned good reason for not binning the monthly charge - bar pissing off the members I guess !!

I'd quit my membership immediately if they got rid of this basic facility.

Not having water available for free at a gym is ridiculous and dare I say it a probable health hazard.

All you need are water fountains with a filter. Get the filters changed when needs be and much cheaper than water coolers.
Will be an initial outlay, but saved quickly in my experience

I wouldn't need water cooled but access to water is a must even its a tap with some plastic cups.

as mentioned above a water fountain (chilled or not) connected to the mains is the way to go rather than one which requires the big bottles. Don't need cups either if fountain as can drink direct from it or fill a bottle.

Again, just access to clean water is all that's needed. Very cold water upsets my stomach anyway so I wait for it to come up to room temperature.

Expensive but really basic need for any gym. My membership is €200/year. If the bloke who runs my gym can find money for a mains water fed cooler I'm damn sure anyone else can.

I have to agree, a gym with no access to water would be a complete no-go for me

my gym doesn't have any water tap/fountain. i've asked them, but to no avail.
they sell bottles of water alright
its the best equiped and cheapest gym in town though, so its a minor thing

I just bring my own. its on my list of things to do before going to gym

My old gym had no water cooler / fountain but sold water bottles for €2 a pop.

    Key word: old

When I was joining I walked around checking out the equipment, changing areas and pool facilities to check them out. Everything seemed nice. Joined anyway only to find that they had no water fountain, I just assumed every gym would have one. I always bring my own water anyway but the fact that they don't have one and charge for water says it all. If they just didn't have one I wouldn't mind, but it was simply not put in for monetary purposes.

I don't care how much it costs, just get the cheapest one and factor it in to your membership prices if you have to. I swear not having one should be illegal because you go there and sweat buckets, I have a right mind to die of dehydration right there on the floor of my old gym!

Yup. Completely get your point, but I'm someone who overheats pretty quickly AND takes agessss in the gym. I'd be hitting close to 3L of water in one session..so bringing that amount of water with me on top of an oversized gym bag wouldnt be the easiest for me to manage!

I never even use the water cooler in my gym!
I make sure I'm well hydrated a few hours before going then just bring a large bottle to drink from regularly if needed!
I mostly do weights there though.

don't worry. I sweat buckets too. 2 litres is usually enough.
I try to ensure i'm well hydrated throughout the day, especially before a gym session or team training. (it is one of my daily goals to get my urine clear by 12 noon)
In fact I often put an extra 1 litre bottle into the car while going to the gym (10 minutes drive) and its often gone by the time i hit the gym floor.

As the lads said a main linked water fountain is the way to go, I can only imagine how much a serviced water cooler would set you back.

Wow! That answers that then! Had to ask :p Mains fed cooler at the moment working out at about 40 yoyo per month.

Ah sure you know yourself, EVERY SINGLE COST needs to be looked at and proven to be worthwhile.

    Cheers for feedback folks.

i know you can trial water coolers for a month

see if there is a difference in the water bill and if it makes financial sense
