Lidl Kitchen Tap - will it fit my sink?

I bought a second hand ceramic sink that has been pre-drilled for a 35mm tap. I also bought a mixer tap with pull out spray head from Lidl last week. On reading the back of the tap box I see that it says 40mm cartridge. Can I use this with the sink? Can you make the hole larger or should I bring the tap back? :o

No it prob will fit as the cartridge is the internals and its not a good idea to drill the sink but more importantly unless you are living in a pumped apartment or house the hot does not work very well on the tap.

Erm, sorry Joey , is that a yes? Not living in an apartment!

Sorry. Yes it will in all probability fit but the hot spray will be very poor on it because you are not pumped

Thanks Joey! Not too bothered about the temperature once I get the spray action! Never bought a tap in Lidl before!

most of these can be adjusted to work on gravity fed system (low pressure) if the person who fits it is good they will know what to do

Ta, I'll hang on to the receipt just in case!

yes, it probably will fit your sink, and yes, it will last about six weeks. The hoses perish super rapid and they are muck. Do yourself a favour, bin it.

Not these ones. It advises the working pressure in the instructions. I check every time i see them because my brother has one and i would happily pick him up a propper one at such a cheap price if i saw it.

Disappointed. Looks like a lovely sturdy tap. I'll bring it back and get a refund so!

It's a min 0.5 bar, max 3 bar if that means anything!

.5 bar is high pressure in ireland. The cold will work fine as i said but the hot would need to be 0.2 bar to work correctly.

So no it will not work propperly.

yes joeseph , but that is the working pressure at the current configuration - if you were experienced with these you would know how to convert them easily -
to work on high pressure they put something in, all you have to do is take it out - it's basic plumbing or basic product knowledge

Thanks everyone for your replies. I brought it back and got a refund!

Best of luck. Seriously.... I know exactly whats in them. If you think you can convert them it would be worth you buying them and converting them

Good choice. These are expensive in ireland because of this problem. But as i say if we all lived in apartments we would be fine.

what do you mean , I have done it numerous times - all the top german brands are easy conversion , it's just you don't know how to .

Can you explain how. because i cannot see it. i would be very greatful as i use to import german taps and was advised that depending on the cartridge some are not adjustable.

If you can explain how i promise i would be forever greatful.

    Thats very helpful of you

They work fine pretty much regardless of the supply pressure. The issue, and the price, is down to the materials used. The hoses perish with use, the cheap stainless braid frays and it gets tatty very fast. I bought and fitted it in our own gaff, and after few weeks, just went and bought a better quality version. No pressure issue whatsoever, and not in an appartment either. Just cheap and nasty.

OK, here we go again! Have my eye on this tap: http://www.sinks-taps.com/item-752-GOTTHARD_Lever_Tap.aspx

Trouble is it recommends a minimum bar pressure of 0.39. Will I have trouble with this i.e. will the flow from it be very weak or can I get away with it? :o

Needless to say I won't be paying the price advertised!

i have changed over franke taps from high to low before -dont want to get into a knowledge debate with the mod so what i suggest you do is ring kal in city west .in the good times they had a dedicated franke service team ,dont know if they still have ,but they could advise you better .

I bought some of the bathroom sink mixer taps 2 months ago.The actual taps work very well and give good flow.

I agree with the poster who said about the cheap and tatty braided steel hoses, they are crap and they fail quite quick too,if you put any sort of bend on them.

Here is a pic of the technical details for the taps,if anyone is interested.

Could you change over a kitchen mixer tap to give good hot water flow???

My kitchen tap work great when on cold, but the hot water flow from it is pretty poor when comparing the flow of it to the cold water flow.

Heres a pic of the tap.

Your not getting into a debate with a mod. It would be nice for you to share how its done. That is all i have said. I dont think it can be done you think it can.

It would be nice to share the knowledge...

Ok so i bought these yesterday......Lidle as always say that its a " easy install"
but the flexi hose/pipe supplied is a non standard (for me anyway)
My plumbing to my sink is 1/2 inch (i think imperial) and teh supplied connector is new metric.....
is there a brass converter that i can buy, or buy a new set of flexi hoses

cramp, a 1/2 inch nut and olive for each tail should convert it.

them fittings(312)is reducing from 3/4 inch to 1/2 inch.did you reduce the size of the pipework.if not and they worked before the pressure must have been good enough for usage so.............

when you fitted them you must have obstructed the entry to nthe tap with hemp or ptfe or what ever you used to seal them to the bottom of the tap.or...............
theres dirt in the taps . this is possible . if you drained the tank to fit them ..........

    hi
well the origianl taps had 3/4 inch copper pipe going direct into base of mixer, which narrowed at the top , to which looks like smaller than 1/2 inch, and a lenght of approx 6inch, these new flexi hose type are approx 18inch and even look narrower than the original at the top...also teh flexi is so long that there now a loop in it...which iam also doesnt help!
Cold Tap aint too bad, but with the low pressure of teh Hot tap there a marked differance!
