How often do you change your mobile phone and/or other gadgets?

How often do you change your mobile and other pieces of technology to the ''latest'' version?

Are you someone who, like me, uses an ainchent brick of a phone bought for the lowest possible price for as long as is fessiable, or do you HAVE to have the latest BlackBerry?

What about Le ipod, will the old one where you scroll around the button with your fingers suffice, or would you not be seen dead without a touchscreen?

I miss the days of Windows 95, Nokia 3310's with Snake, and the PS1

Hah, I used to like to keep up with technology! These days I can hardly afford it.

I love building my own pc's, getting the latest and most powerful parts that I can afford! I have two 24" monitors with boards.ie on one screen and work related stuff on another!

With phones etc, I love to have the lastest! But I get bored after a while and look forward to upgrading!

I'm a geek! :P

Used to change the phone on a regular basis. Never used to keep a phone for more than a year, that is until I bought a nokia touchscreen (Just to keep up with the jones's ) which lasted me for over 15 months until I broke it. The next touch screen phone was just painful to use so 3 months that lasted me and went back to a nokia c5, and that will do until it breaks. Sick of phones. The 3310 was the best phone ever made, mine took some abuse and never broke. Phones these days are shyte. They don't make them like they used to

As for Ipods, never had one and don't really want one. Don't need to be wired up listening to music all the time.

Every time too many of the wrong people know my number. I also pretend to have changed it when someone texts me who I've deleted, or I bump into them and have to explain why I haven't been in touch.

I've had the same phone for about 6 years now, iPod 4 years, laptop 3 years, TV 3 years.

As above, I only change something when it refuses to work. Though when it comes to phones I think I'm going to be left behind in my ability to use the technology. I borrowed someone's phone the other day because I had no credit and had to make an urgent call, I couldn't make the call because there were no numbers on the phone!

I generally keep my phone till I lose it/break it. Unless it's a Sony Ericson, they've got a life span of about a week.

My Sony Ericsson has been going strong for over 2 years now. Don't plan on getting a new phone until this one packs it in.

Not as often as I used to. Up until recently I was changing often because of the hardware, but now that has reached a point where the benefit doesn't justify the price. These days it's mostly about the software and most devices can be upgraded to provide new functionality without requiring new hardware.

You'd be amazed. When i was working for mobile companies you'd have endless people buying a phone, ringing up 3 to 4 months later and demanding another upgrade or they would leave.

People have this really weird view of mobile phone contracts where they think they don't apply in real life.

I get new stuff often, but I always try and get a "second life" out of old stuff. For instance, my iPod now sits in a dock on my sound system all the time.

very true. i've to charge my phone at least once in 24 hours, it's such a pain, what good is it if there's a good chance when i need it out and about the battery is going to be too low!

People that insist on ostentatiously flaunting ancient phones are no less annoying than gadget freaks. Possibly more actually.

The very first mobile phone I ever had was a Sagem MW3020 which I purchased way back in 2002. That one slowly but surely died on me. I mean I had to keep it connected to the battery charger if I wanted to make a phone call, which means the mobile phone was no longer mobile.

I upgraded to a Samsung E-250 in 2007 which worked perfectly until the screen went blank on me for no apparent reason last year. So I upgraded again to this Samsung SGH-5230 which has served me well since last October. But since this is a touchscreen phone I predict a lot of trouble with it in the next few months...

I still have my nokia 5500! Speaker is starting to go but finances are tight at the mo so the new phone will just have to wait. I'm a bit worried about getting a newer phone as they appear to be fragile enough.

An iMac which I bought in June 2010 (replaced a 3 year-old Dell which was fitting and farting).

42 Inch Panasonic Viera bought late 2009.

I'll probably keep my phone for yonks (and I've had it for yonks.) Battery life is the best thing about old phones.

I have an iPod Touch I bought last Christmas, and I find I only use it for the internet and music. Internet when I'm on the bog, in bed, at friends places, in a café or in a pub. I don't see myself upgrading it because I don't tax the hardware. The only thing that would make me do it is if the rumour that Apple are releasing an iPod Touch with a sim card slot is true, I might get that. The idea is that it's cheap to make becuase it cuts out 90% of the phone stuff, and because it's cheap you don't need the mobile companies subsidising it, so you can get a PAYG Sim Card and use it for data the odd time I'd need the internet on the hop. Pretty good idea, mobile internet without the €35 minimum 18 month contract. And you get to keep your old phone with the decent battery life. I just figure the mobile companies wouldn't be happy as I can imagine a fair amount of people avoiding smartphones entirely if this option was available.

Apart from that, I bought a new PC last year, and I figure I'll get another two years out of it before I start looking at upgrades.

And the best (and only) gadget I bought in recent months is a satellite tuner for my PC, which I doubt I'll need to upgrade for years.

Simply put, it depends.

A digital year is approximately 3 months. Companies such as Apple contain that and use it to their advantage with their programmed product refreshes. Others such as HTC (as an example in contrast to Apple) have saturated the market with their products which have widely varying degrees of specifications. Nokia used to do this too.

Personally, if the tech has advanced enough to offer advantages that suit my use of the tech, then I'll upgrade. My current mobile cell is 11 months old.

I've a phone for text and calls and an MP3 music and I keep both for as long as is possible. I got an iTouch for Christmas from my parents (I guess they were out of ideas since I never ask for anything) and it's just collecting dust... My older MP3 holds more music and has a longer battery and its a two-year-old Sony! Also touchscreen drive me mad. Although the iTouch does make a handy camera I suppose...

When something breaks. I've had my mobile phone for 9 months, the one before that I had for 3 years. My ipod is 3 years old. The laptop that I'm typing on now I've had since 15/02/2005 (just checked in my computer) but I've given it upgrades. I've got a PS1 lying around here somewhere but I rarely play it anymore cause most of the games I had for it have gone missing. Oh and I've got a commodore 64 from 1986 & about 30 games for it in a box under my bed.

Used to update my phone regularly but only changed to my new one as the old model started acting up and I got the replacement cheap.
Went from PS1 to PS2 then PS3.All were bought on launch day and cost a small fortune at the time but I got good value out of them.
People have asked me why I haven't swapped my laptop for an Ipad which I would find less useful to me and a waste of money which is my thinking lately for a lot of tech stuff (although I did splash out on a 47" LED tv)

i always have to have the newest iPhone though.

No set period for me, depends on how well it works out. I kept the same phone, a Nokia 6680, for almost 5 years. Kept my previous phone for a year.

My last mobile phone was almost six years old. I don't see the point in replacing it if all the main functions are still intact. I buy new consoles when a large development has taken place and others are moving to a different console.

Desktop is about 7 years old, Laptop (MacBook) is 3 years old, iPod about the same, phone (Nokia C3 I think it's called? with the Qwerty keypad) a couple of months old.

I hate touchscreen phones. They have to have buttons. And I like the Qwerty pad, hate spending ages texting. I only change my phone when it breaks (very often)/get one as a present/I get pissed and let it fall into the jacks.
