    Telegraph

Not only will it cost as much as €117 million per mile, it'll also be cutting through large swathes of countryside. Really don't understand why they don't just build it alongside the M1 and M6, like Germany builds their NBS corridors alongside the Autobahn. On top of that, the claims of 400-km/h top speeds are as ludicrous as the claims of the Chinese and their HSR network.

The M1 may not be a particularly good route - the designed it more for straightness than for avoiding ups and downs.

I think the LGV Nord / A1 corridor in France has an advantage over the M1 as the LGV Nord / A1 were planned together.
