New Zealand: 15 Mils Muliaina, 14 Cory Jane, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Ma'a Nonu, 11 Zac Guildford, 10 Daniel Carter, 9 Jimmy Cowan, 8 Adam Thomson, 7 Richie McCaw (C), 6 Jerome Kaino, 5 Ali Williams, 4 Samuel Whitelock, 3 Ben Franks, 2 Andrew Hore, 1 Wyatt Crockett.

Replacements: 16 Corey Flynn, 17 John Afoa, 18 Jarrad Hoeata, 19 Liam Messam, 20 Piri Weepu, 21 Colin Slade, 22 Sonny Bill Williams

South Africa: 15 Patrick Lambie, 14 Bjorn Basson, 13 Adi Jacobs, 12 Juan de Jongh, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Ruan Pienaar

8 Danie Rossouw, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Alistair Hargreaves, 4 Gerhard Mostert, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 John Smit (captain), 1 Dean Greyling.

Replacements: Chiliboy Ralepelle, CJ van der Linde, Ryan Kankowski, Ashley Johnson, Charl McLeod, Wynand Olivier, Odwa Ndungane

The bookies have the All Blacks as massive favourites for this one at 1/25 while the Boks are languishing at 10/1. With serious jockeying for starting positions going on in the All Blacks squad I’m hoping for a demolition job. PDV in his wisdom is starting Lambie at fullback and Morne Steyn at outhalf but to me it is just moving the proverbial deck chairs. The weather forecast has improved slightly and is for a dry evening in Wellington, so fingers crossed that we will see a game worth getting up early for. Don't forget to post any good streams in the match streams thread. :D

Got a bit of money riding on this, hopefully the Blackness deliver on expectations.

Average players in every position bar maybe 10 and 9. Why Rossouw is at 8 I do not know. I expect the first half to be similar to the Aussie game, with the All Blacks having most if not all control. But the difference between the Aussie game and this - the All Blacks have a bench that can keep the foot on the accelerator.

Either way, it better be worth getting up so friggin early.

    Thomson to score at 7/2
South African anthem butchered big time
    New Zealand anthem note perfect
    New jersey is class.
and the track top is gorgeous
I'll be getting both. Ka mate

Don't think much of the new NZ jersey, certainly wasn't worth all the talk..
Looks like one that will rip around the collar.

Wow, stunning kick through, support and pass from Carter. Great try. Copper like.
2 tries quickly and game getting away from SA. 2 missed conversions though. 13-0.

    Awesome!!!!

Impressively easy try off line out from SA. Kick to corner off a pen rather than go for 3, off the top. One pass, Schmidt runs over carter and Nonu to score under posts. 13-7

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

Jane scored lovely try from own half and carter missed conversion again. 18-7 half time. Decent half.

Sorry guys for anyone who followed by -15 by halftime but I had a substantial - 10 last night which more than covers my losses. :D

This will be excellent experience for the fringe Boks making up most of this side.

Pressure on NZ in sept/oct unchanged still. Will be 'eps'lootly messuv'

Doing it again at rucks. Tackler swinging round while not releasing thus obstructing attackers joining ruck and slowing ball down. Annoying!

Just threw the match on there... just wondering if the score is fair or does it flatter the All Blacks?

Also that All Black jersey is deadly!

Edit: Are they going to be using that jersey for the WC yeah? May be a stupid question but I'm very tired!!!

From a SA supporter, i think we are not doing to badly, as it is a 95% NZ A Team, vs a SA B team

Illegal turnover by mccaw there on the 63rd min mark

Yeah it seems to be a very inexperienced SA side from the little bit I've seen, have they given out many new caps?

Not happy at all, stupid fattys trying to grab some of the lime-light at the end. Cost me a lot of money!

    SA ruin the Tri Nations

    SA ruin the Tri Nations
The TriNations is the least on the minds of the teams taking part at the moment.
Month and a half to go before the RWC starts and thats what will be foremost.

Australia and New Zealand will both be putting out full teams next week. Henry says he's picking the team he considers to be his World Cup XV right now.

All with the RWC in mind.
You'll find other squads will be doing similar in their pre-RWC games. One week its likely you'll see an entirely different side to another. Even here.

How does McCaw get away with it?

Was it the last, or second last try. Off a line-out on the right, Blacks take the line-out and spread it across towards the left touchline. McCaw is off side the whole way across the pitch, running ahead of the play, and then obstructs a Bok tackler, allowing the Black try.

In Rollands defence he penalised him 4 times today which is about twice as much as he normally gets caught

Yeah, and he has no damn right to! It's nearly as bad as people being allowed to tackle Dan Carter - is it any wonder the poor devil was off his best kicking form. :D

I would love to see Chiliboy's run again. That turnover did not look legal at all when the Boks were a few meters short of the line

I watched it a few times, Mils didn't roll away after the tackle and McCaw just flopped in from the side and stayed there. Yellow card stuff. In fairest to the Kiwi commentators (who are generally atrociously one eyed) they said it was a penalty

    Wednesday I'd imagine.

Barring unknown injuries Oz will start with the exact same team as the opener and Kiwi will be the same as today except Reid and Thorn will come in for Thompson and Whitelock.

I'd drop Muliaina as well but Henry seems to think he's undropable

would weepu not be the no 1 scrum half? I reckon sivivatu or Hosea gear should get the no 11 jersey

Weepu is more talented then Cowan but he's too hot and cold and can't last a full match. I actually think Cowan is perfect for what the AB's need i.e. quick accurate passer, strong tackler, consistent and a superb engine. When you're backline is as good as the AB's you don't want the 9 farting around and trying off the cuff stuff.

No way Jane or Guilford are getting dropped after a brace each today

yeah no way jane will be dropped but I thought Sivivatu played brilliant in his first half last week with a really under performing nz team.

  • If Genia was an AB, they'd win every game by 30 points.

Even with Cowan's flakiness and Weepu's inconsistency the AB's play a game that simply uses the scrum half as a mobile off-loader. It works wonderfully though.

Still haven't seen first try - not on this clip nor in either Sky Sports News highlights nor BBC News highlights. Will have to wait for upload on rugby dump.

Genia's a freak and (luckily for everyone else) Kiwi don't have anything like him. Of what they've got Cowan is the best of a poor bunch.

I quite liked what i saw of Brendon Leonard with the Chiefs this season. I'd have him the mix with the others but probably not much ahead of any of the currently selected scrum halves.

I wonder how many tackles John Smit alone has missed? Sad to see.
