All my friends go out on Wednesday nights, the day before a game for me.How much would alcohol affect performance and fitness 24 hours before a match?
Sorry if this is the wrong place :P

Your Milage May Vary. It really depends on what you drink, how much you drink, are you eating food with it, how much water you drink at the same time, how much sleep you get afterwards, all sorts of other factors.

Quite a bit, not advisable if you want to perform well.

I'm 41 and I play 6 a side soccer every monday in Dublin.

I used to drink every Friday, Saturday and Sunday but recently I have cut out these nights altogether and now go out on a Wednesday and Thursday instead.

I've noticed that on Mondays my fitness levels are better. But I also play on Fridays and I always struggle for fitness on a Friday after drinking on Wednesday and Thursday.

So yes, it probably makes some sort of a difference.

IMO only you know that yourself, and even then can vary widely by the factors Eileen pointed out.
For example, Sundays results in one of the two scenarios for me, but I could go out and get floored and end up at i) or go out for a few and somehow end up at ii) and vice versa:

    i) Up at 9am, full of energy, can do a full days work or do plenty of exercise, trips etc. --> :D/:cool:

ii) Up at 12.30 pm, get up and devour a big fry, go back to bed with gallons of water, get up at 6 pm, get a dirty take away, then on the couch for the night. Could get up and do things if I wanted to, but wouldn't be in the best of moods. --> :eek:/:(

So my answer to your question from my experience is Yes/No.

depends on how dedicated you are and what kind of performance you're happy with. if you want to put in your best performance, don't drink. If you just want to get through a game alive, then drink whatever the hell you want.
