The Irish Open returns to Killarney, albeit with the prize fund sliced in half since 3's decision to end their sponsorship. It will still be a treat to have two of this years major winners in the field, even better that they are Irish. If the weather is similar or better then last year then the crowds should turn out in great numbers.

My selections for this week are Jacquelin (40/1) & McGrane (100/1).

Donaldson at 25's is terrible odds, they have him priced the same as Clarke!!

The bloke could win but how he isn't at least 66 I don't know

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,121 ✭✭✭tang1

Simon Dyson €5 to win at 25/1. E/Wr's Richard Finch at 50's and Gonzalo Fernandez Castano at 125's.

Richard Finch came second last week and feels comfortable in Ireland(winner a couple of years ago) so I will be taking what I can get on him and I also fancy Michael Campbell to put 4 rounds together for an each way( also a winner in Ireland)

I expect GMAC to try his hardest to win also but odds are very short, an outside punt on Shane Lowry and Chris wood maybe.

McIlroy 5/1 is poor price really.
This will be his 150th start on European tour.
    2 wins to date!

Might back Simon Dyson and Chris Wood.

Gone with Dyson and Finch and Phil in America.

According to the European Tour site it's his 88th start as a pro. And I doubt he played 62 events as an amateur ;)

He played his 100th professional event worldwide at the start of the year. He is on about his 110th event as a pro and 88th on the Euro Tour (as i said above)

Epic fail from me, for some reason they added up his rankings in Race2Dubai over 5 years and put the number beside events played (87) :o

Its going to be a birdiefest and typically PH does not do well in tournaments where the winner comes in 20+ under.

Not sure who to do, but Donaldson and Dyson seem to be on the verge of claiming a title sooner or later so I'm try them e/w.

Should be good entertainment, but think McIlroy and McDowell are out a few hours before the coverage starts which is a shame.

Followed rory for the first 8 holes today and he was -5 for them, could have been -8(he missed 3putts inside 15 ft)...if conditions stay the same he'll win it by a mile.
Robert jan derksen seemed to be playing well,@80/1 might be worth a fiver e/w

Lads I'm heading back to Killarney on Saturday, herself wants to know what time she's to be ready at. I presume it would be a mid-morning tee off schedule?

I'd imagine play will start around 8ish,the last groups normally tee-off around 1

Stuck 20 e/w on Robert rock, seems like good value

Small e/w stakes on Finch, Wood and Bourdy...hard to look beyond McIlroy for the win though.

I got the starts wrong but the wins right.

Quail Hollow isn't on European tour.

His confidence will be up and he should push on from here.

How about the guy who got to play in the pro am with him? Would be class but lucky he was an 8 handicapper, if it was me 20.4 handicapper:eek: there would be some insurance claims from spectators around the course!!!

Just switched on to see McIlroy play that amazing approach shot to the 14th. Miles right off the tee, hooks a wedge 120yds right at the pin. Hate to say it, but it reminded you so much of what Tiger used to do. Didnt just get it back in play, he hit to about 15 feet. Class.

Some shot alright. The kind of shot that seperates the Pros from us mere mortals.

    My selections :

    Lowry e/w @ 33-1
    Storm e/w @ 28-1 (aftet 12 holes played)

noticed that - what happened rory with his course management?

And why is rory being so foolish as to get involved?

What a poor field of players. Don't give me the Major thing, it is a poor field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

yep outside of the Irish stars its pretty thin. Only a half dozen inside the top 100 in the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,185 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    Money talks I guess,

It is not a bad prize fund, but would be in the bottom third in ranking, bottom third, you get the bottom third, fair play to the Irish lads playing, I'd say it being played (where ever it is on), would not be good for travelling to, these guys play golf every week and most don't do awkward.

If only we could get the week before the British Open and play it in portmarnock, portrush or any links.

    We'd have a savage field.

    Here
McIlroy later shared a bitter exchange on Twitter with American Jay Townsend, a former European Tour player who now works for BBC radio.

Townsend tweeted: "McIlroy's course management was shocking. Some of the worst course management I have ever seen beyond under-10 boys' golf competition."

McIlroy quickly replied: "Shut up ... you're a commentator and a failed golfer, your opinion means nothing!"

McIlroy should stay away from this kind of stupid/needless carry-on :(
