AH to be renamed to Catholic Church and Facebook Rants.

I deleted my profile ages ago, but then went back as I realised it's a useful tool even if I can block\mute all the other useless tools on it.

What you expect to get out of it is exactly proportional to what you put in...................and privacy controls. All about the privacy.

One of the lads in work did it, but said that you don't actually delete it. It will take you off all your friends pages, but you will still exist in Facebookland. If you try to log in using your old username and password, it will reactivate.

Facebook can get boring all right but only because your probably on it too much, stay away from it for a while, its handy for perv'n and keeping in touch with friends.

I had enough of Facebook once and deactivated my account, the amount of texts, phone calls and emails I got asking where I'd gone. I wouldn't mind I didn't flounce or make a big deal, one day I just had enough so tiptoed away quietly....I'd love to get rid of it for good...but it's too much hassle

I've considered deleting it at times, but I must admit that there have been times when I have lost my phone or lost someone's phone number etc, and it does work as an effective form of communication in cases like that. For example, I left my phone at my mate's house a few days ago, Facebook confirmed for me where it was and when I could collect it etc. Good to have a reserve form of contact

Well my reasons for deleting are as follows:-

the main one was when I googled my name...all the comments I ever made on posts to groups came up....this bugged me big time.

I spent alot of time blocking people....aka mad ex stalkers...who tried to friend, friends of mine in order to see what I was doing.

I await while you all go google your names to see what comes up....:)

You can remove that feature in your privacy settings! As far as blocking people it shouldn't really matter to you once you've blocked them.........Wait wait wait "mad ex stalkers".........somebody got around! Wooooooooooo! Jerry JERRY JERRY!

Just did that, turns out someone with the same name as me had an affair with their long lost daughter. Won't be doing that again :(

I have a facebook account for website related facebook pages (well 3 accounts) but I find Facebook an infuriating site to use and it just doesn't make sense to me. I avoid it like the plague personally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭tiny_penguin

You can deactivate it or delete it.

Even if you delete it they still store your info - if you ever want it back you just have to email them and you get your page back as if you were never gone.

I'm seriously considering blocking my own brother just to put an end to seeing his naked arse show up in my newsfeed every time I log in.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,986 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

I have it but I needed an account to read some profiles, mainly sports teams

I've never liked anything, never posted anything and while I got a few friend requests I won't be accepting them.

    I'm a lurker :)

Or you could start making sexually inappropriate comments about his arse for all his friends to see.

fyi, you cant actually delete an account, you can deactivate it but it stays there for about 2 weeks i think- at any point you can log in and all your same details, friends, etc are still there but if you dont log in for 2 weeks after deactivating then it will eventually disappear into non existence..

So you can delete it, they just make you wait 14 days to do it for you.

I personally think it's a great way to keep in touch with friends. No real need to put any more thought into it. If you don't like it, you mustn't have any friends (on it).

No - Friends of mine have deleted their accounts fully (not deactivate) and gone back months later and been able to get their old profile back as it was.

Bebo was much the same only it took a little more persuading to get them to admit they had all my info - i deleted my account fully, lost all the photos on my harddrive and backup about 6 months later. Emailed bebo to see if i could get my account back as a lot of my photos were on there - took about 3 emails of me saying i hadnt deleted it but been hacked and they finally conceded they could reinstate all the info. Turns out i recovered everything from my harddrive.

No matter what they tell you they keep all your information forever!

Thats a bit of a silly statement. Every one who has heard of facebook and a has at least two friends in the world knows someone on it.

Stop trying to justify your zombie habit of stalking people on the web

I hate it but I just ignore it really until someone contacts me, I'm an anti social f*cker as it is who live miles from any friends, it has its benefits.

    You really believe this?

    Yeah, cos I did it.

When I deactivated my account before it was tough. Had to delete all logon data in my browser and it was like a nervous tick to start typing "face...." in to the address bar for two weeks. But when I got the urge to head back I tried to log in again and it wouldn't let me. So had to start from scratch.

I deactivated my facebook before, people were not happy cause all the tagged photos of them were gone.

Didn't last too long off it. Hate Facebook with a passion, it really is not good for me but its one of my remaining few ways of contact with the human world and makes me believe I have friends.

Try googling your boards user name and see what happens!!! As far as I now you dont have privacy settings for your posts!! With facebook you can restrict alot of stuff and as a previos poster said its a useful communication tool...
