    Australia:
    15 Kurtley Beale, 14 James O'Connor, 13 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 12 Pat McCabe, 11 Digby Ioane, 10 Quade Cooper, 9 Will Genia,
8 Ben McCalman, 7 David Pocock, 6 Rocky Elsom, 5 James Horwill, 4 Rob Simmons, 3 Ben Alexander, 2 Stephen Moore, 1 Sekope Kepu.

    Replacements: 16 Saia Fainga'a, 17 Pekahou Cowan, 18 Nathan Sharpe, 19 Matt Hodgson, 20 Scott Higginbotham, 21 Nick Phipps, 22 Anthony Fainga'a

    South Africa:
15 Gio Aplon, 14 Bjorn Basson, 13 Juan De Jongh, 12 Wynand Oliver, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Ruan Pienaar,
8 Ashley Johnson, 7 Danie Rossouw, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Johann Muller, 4 Flip Van Der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 John Smit (c), 1 Dean Greyling.

Replacements: 16 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 17 CJ Van Der Linde, 18 Alistair Hargreaves, 19 Jean Deysel, 20 Charl McLeod, 21 Adrian Jacobs, 22 Patrick Lambie.

The Tri-Nations opener sees a far better looking Aussie starting lineup with the return of James O’Connor and Quade Cooper. QC didn’t train today due to flu but is expected to start tomorrow. Weather forecast for Sydney on Saturday is showery and it was very wet today. http://weather.smh.com.au/local.jsp

The Aussies will be looking for blood after the shock defeat by Samoa and nobody better to deal it out to than this ‘second string’ Boks squad. The handicap of (-7) @ 10/11 for the Aussies looks a safe bet.

Someone had to start the thread but I'll leave it now to the rugby pundits here to kick it along. Hopefully it will be more exciting than today's game. :D

I should have put a bet for Oz -7. We'll see what happens anyway. It'll be interesting to see pocock and elsom play / react to all the negetative publisity

I honestly don't think they'll give a stuff. Usually a player will watch one replay of game then move on the following Monday. Pocock didn't play last week though.

WOW is all i can say to those two tries

    great stuff to watch

Another great try, a lot of speed shown. Bad attempt at a tackle by Aplon

Genia and Cooper's ability to see a gap is unreal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,106 ✭✭✭andrewdcs

Freakish brilliance by australia in those two breaks... one missed tackle / mismatch and it's all over.

Lining up to be a cracker! need SA to step up now.

I wouldn't aplon too much for that try, it was a nice step attacking the weak shoulder - the opposite shoulder to where he was running

Should have scored another try there. Austalia are pi$$ing through them.

I'll watch it later. Can skip through the silly bits. Jaapies just not in it. Obviously in RWC-mode.

Not surprising in the slightest as I said in the mega thread the Wallabies should be looking to put at least 40 points on this team.

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,614 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

Couple of nice try's, especially hands from Rocky to get the scoring pass away for first one. Second was pretty poor defending.

Doesn't appear to be much of a game really, real trial/warm up feel to it.

miracle reover from Beale there :p very unlucky not to score again there, lovely line from James o'Connor

They might if they could cut out the handling errors. There has been quite a few at vital moments

Never thought I would be glad to see Boks scoring points but I had more than 19.5 in the 1st half - yet another close shave - good old Morne Steyn! :D

    15-6 HT

    SA very poor

SA, 19 missed tackles with the lions share of possession in 40 minutes is shocking.
They have tightened it up, but 3 or 4 tidier passes from Australia and it'd be well over. still, Australia are very entertaining to watch, so many guys willing to have a go / cockiness about them. Get the feeling is SA could stick a few phases together they could stretch anyone tho, but they do look disinterested at critical points, can't change through the gears defensively.

Good catch by O'Connor, another good try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

great pick up from O'Connor but more brilliant work from Cooper.

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,614 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

Great pick up from O'Connor to turn a shocking pass into a try. Cooper can be very sloppy with those passes.

20-6 James O'Connor in for a try but I couldn't see it for xxxxn ads!

    O'Connor.
    Class act

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,406 ✭✭✭Phonehead

One of the poorest SA Rugby teams in a long time.

the term "like a knife through butter" comes to mind

Aus well on top in the scrum.... that's the most worrying thing from an Irish perspective

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,549 ✭✭✭✭Judgement Day

    Another penalty and it's 32-6

they look like they really dont even care which is worse. head down, hands on hips, lips stuck out. this is kind of their second string, but still....you'd expect guys to be looking for WC spots etc.

Aus looking at getting 50 here, didn't think the margin would be this big.

Ashley Cooper scores. Unreal flick from Quade to give it wide.

    Try 37-6!

and O'Connor makes it 6 from 7 and the score is 39-6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Australia finally starting to take full advantage of their opportunities, good try by Ashley Cooper. More bad defence by SA out wide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

god this is embarrasing stuff from SA but the Australians skill levels are extremely high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

    Higginbotham on for Rocky.

    39-6, great conversion from JOC.

Lambie on at 10 for SA.

I can't get over the fact that a saffa side is playing with no passion or heart!

    Try for Chiliboy.

How do we close down Cooper AND Genia, you can alwaysput in a game plan to close out 1 freak player but with after the other in the half backs, what can be done !?!

Its an odd feeling as my new adopted team is teh QLd reds that I am praying for cooper to get injured for RWC :o <guilty conscience >

There has been talk here if a Leinster V Reds game next season post RWC anyonehere of this back home ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,406 ✭✭✭Phonehead

This Saffa team are giving the space these guys need to play their fancy dan game:D I can't see us giving them such an easy time of it.

They are both so dangerous but at the same time, its very hard to dominate a game from halfback if you are on the back foot. So if we can get dominance in the pack, thats probably our best chance.

NO word of Leinster Reds. And Leinster are pretty busy post RWC defending the HEC in a compressed format!!

Now 39-13. Missed the SA try due to yet another stream going down. How does de Villiers survive - he must be somebody's lovechild. :D

Cooper and Genia's wristwork is something else.

Genia is faster and stronger than TOL, has a better break than Reddan, and is a better passer than Stringer ffs! Incredible.

Big Jacks tactics will be called for to put em under pressure, however too much rushing up just leaves gaps for their steps and back handed off loads.

We just have to dominate the scrum and line out and just live in the open field situations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,287 ✭✭✭crisco10

I don't usually agree with stephen jones but its hard to imagine any away victories in this 3N as each team rests up before the RWC.

    Away game = play reserves
Home game = Give the first team game time

Indeed, and even the scrum seems to be good today, although it is against a weak SA scrum unit.

I've a feeling Australia will play full strength all championship.
