t's a Nokia 6310i if I'm not mistaken, legendary phone. Battery lasts 15 days on it. They don't make them like that anymore.

Almost every business person who had a phone had one of those. Noting wrong with them, great battery life.
Never had a call in tech support about issues with those phones at all.

My wife only recently upgraded her 6310 for a new phone. She must have had the thing for 10 years! It was a rock solid phone and still had an exceptional battery life. I think she regrets letting it go now.

Why do people think it's cool to have an old phone!? It's a piece if shít phone.

"oh my phone does exactly what it's meant to do, talk and text. Why would I want it do anything else? Sure then I'd just buy a TV, PC, MP3 player, Newspaper, DVD player and carry them all in my pocket.... by the way did I mention, I'm really condescending and pretentious"

There's nothing wrong with browsing the web, listening to music, watching movies or catching up with social networking on a phone while out an about.

Actually they do - only the phones are not released of the rest of Europe!

Mobile phones with long-life batteries give newcomers the edge in rural India
Western telecoms giants have been accused of failing to cater for millions of potential customers in the world’s second-largest mobile phone market, opening the way for a fierce battle with new, local rivals.

With 830 million subscribers, India trails only China in market scale and sales of handsets are experiencing explosive growth. Last year alone Indians bought 120 million devices — an average of ten million per month.

But the grip of established groups such as Nokia, which used to control more than 70 per cent of the market, is being weakened rapidly by a flood of low-cost domestic challengers. In the past two years, companies such as MicroMax, Spice, Lava and Karbonn have stolen market share by focusing on cost and their strong understanding of the needs of Indian people, such as providing phones with longer battery life for those in remote communities with limited access to electricity.

“Many big Western manufacturers ignored the rural market in India,” said S. N. Rai, the director of Lava phones, which has sold seven million handsets since launching eighteen months ago. “That was a big opportunity for others. Nokia forgot to understand that their phones used too much power and were not that suited for Indian consumers.”

Foremost among the Indian upstarts challenging the “big five” of Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson and Motorola is MicroMax, which was founded by four engineering college friends three years ago. Their main innovation was to make a phone with a 30-day battery life and dual SIM card phones — a key attraction in India, where many people have two or more SIMs, which they switch between depending on the best price plan available at the time.

Rahul Sharma, a co-founder of MicroMax, told The Times: “From the start, I asked: ‘Why can’t we make a phone which will last longer for people in villages who don’t have access to electricity?’ We realised there was a huge market for this.” Sales growth in the past year has been 43 per cent.
Since launching its first model in 2009, the group has grown to control a 7 per cent share of the Indian handset market — placing it third behind Nokia’s 39 per cent, which is falling rapidly, and Samsung, at 17.2 per cent.

After cementing its dominance in rural India, MicroMax then unleashed a branding and marketing campaign in urban India aimed squarely at the youth market, advertising alongside international cricket tournaments. It also tied up with MTV to provide co-branded phones.

It is already selling 1.2 million phones per month in India through more than 100,000 retailers and is taking the formula overseas, to similar markets in the developing world. “It’s been a very good journey for us,” Mr Sharma said. “Right now we are doing well in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and we are launching in Africa.”

Karbonn mobile phones has a similar story and is selling 600,000 phones per month.
Whether the companies will be able to replicate their successes outside India remains to be seen, but there is no question of the challenge they are posing to established groups.

“Indian-made phones are popular because they are cheap but good quality,” Suresh Sundaram, who sells phones on Mumbai’s Lamington Road, said. “I sell more and more of them every month.”

i actually saw someone in the office using one the other week for the first time in a good few years and remembered what a great phone it was.

if you literally only use your phone for phone calls and the odd text, need exceptional battery life and are on the road a lot and need something that fits in a good sturdy car kit, as quite a lot of business people would, then this is still a very good choice.

Fair dues if that's all the person wants their phone for but that's not the case for over, I'd say, 90% of people.

God it pleases me no end to see a prominent figure without a so-called 'smart' phone glued to their ear. There's nothing smart about owning some 'exclusive' piece of technology that's actually more ubiquitous than teabags

I'm not missing the point. They're shíte now. They were good at one point.

Depends what you want in your phone. If you want to make calls and texts and that is it, it is a brilliant robust phone.

I dropped mine coming out of the luas a few months back and the loud bang it made, people turned around. The screen didn't break though! :pac: (I did drown it though a few weeks after... :( )

I currently have a Nokia that cost me 40 euro I think. The most advanced 'application' on it is the flashlight. :pac: It also has a radio. :)

Fair dues if that's all the person wants their phone for but that's not the case for over, I'd say, 90% of people.

I only use mine for calls and texts and alarm function. It has a camera (not a particularly good one) which I rarely use. And I'm certainly not a technophobe by any means. I just don't care about my phone doing anything else.

I can access the web all day or evening on a pc/laptop, I have a camera if I need it, I have an ipod, I don't need a phone to do those things.
