I have been training for a year but only started lifting a month ago i'm trying to bulk up. I got a bag of Whey Protein today from myprotein. I train in the morning. I train 3 day on and 1 off. When is the best time to take it before and after or just after? and how many times a day? should i take it when im not training? I normally have 3 eggs after training and would have a tin of tuna about 3 hours after that and chicken or steak about 3 hours after that.

Just after you finish your workout. Some people will take it straight away before hitting the showers, others will drink it on their way home.

    Protein is food.
    Eat it when you're hungry.
Include it in some form with every meal.

Shakes are a handy way to get Protein in.
As long as you get it into within a couple of hours of training you'll bs grand.
    Don't overcomPlicate things.

3 eggs is roughly the same amount of protein as a shake.
If you are happy with eggs afterward then stick with them, this and tuna later is perfect

To gain muscle you gotta have excess protein and calories.

Don't ever replace food with a shake, always have the shakes in addition to your diet.

Whey is just a milk derivative, its not magic muscle juice, despite what protein companies would have you believe.

So what matters more is having a decent amount of protein in your overall diet, rather than the timing of your shakes

Read an article on Hugh Jackman taking protein in the middle of the night to bulk up for xmen, tried it once and the rumours about dairy before bed are true (for me at least), had some whopper nightmares.

Things like this are deliberately overcomplicated by both the health and fitness media and supplement industry.

If everyone realised and accepted that building muscle involved little more than eating lots of good quality whole foods, training hard & consistantly and getting adequate sleep, then there would be no fitness articles to write and no supplements to sell.

Ultimately, your results will be determined by how well you do the above, not by miniscule factors like the timing of your protein intake.
