Why is it so hard to become a BER assessor?

    Hello everyone,

I have a query about doing a BER course. So to start off, I am a first year Quantity Surveying Student in LIT and I come from a Real Estate background so I've grown up learning about Construction/Property. Is this enough to qualify for a construction background? From speaking with lecturers, the stuff we are doing at the minute is enough to be able to do a BER without having the affiliation, so chances are I'd have as much if not more knowledge than people with level 5/6 etc in Construction or people who have worked in Construction.

Would I run into any more problems being so young?

    Thank you!

Be interesting to hear from people who work in this area now. From what I understand the initial glut of BER assessors subsided when it became obvious that there was insufficient work to support all and rates fell etc. But the legalities have bitten now and a BER cert is required for insulation schemes as well as sales etc. So presumably there's a lot more work, are BER assessors minting it now then?
