I hear the interview for primary is quite relaxed so if thats anything to go on you will need good knowledge of your subject area, why you want to be a teacher etc. Similar questions to other pdge interviews.

Im starting to worry having not heard anything about an interview, have to wait and see what next week brings and hope for the best

I got a date for the interview so I'm just preparing at the moment. I assume it will be along the same lines as the primary interview, why you want to do teaching ect and your subject area. just wondering has anyone actually done the interview for the post primary yet? and if yes how did it go?

Hey, I havent done my interview yet but the best tip I have is to go to the govt publications office off dawson street and buy the syllabus and guidelines for your subject area, theu will ask about your kbowledge of subject area and these are key for answering questions like whats the most challenging/boring/interesting part of the curriculum and ways to teach these are in the guidelines.
of course you might already know all this but hope it helps. I hope your interview goes well : )

Well first of all we don't allow text speak on Boards so try not to use it.

Are you talking about the primary school Hibernia course? This thread is about the post primary Hibernia course.

    Hey there,

Had the interview on Friday. No word yet, but hey, hopefully that is not a bad sign yet! It was quite relaxed I must say. There were 3 people on the panel - opened with general questions on my interest in teaching and the course etc, then some questions on my degree and the curriculum and finally some questions on communication and ICT in schools......

I think it went ok, but I shall have to see when I hear if I was successful or not! Best of luck to those of you waiting for interview! If anyone has also had an interview how soon did you hear back from them?

    K

    Hi K,
Thanks for letting us know what they asked.
They are interviewing by subject area so it will be a couple of weeks before they finish so dont be worried if you dont hear straight away.
Im sure your interview went really well, hopefully you'll hear soon.

    Hi Everyone,
So what subjects are they interviewing for at the moment. How long after the interview will you hear whether you were successful or not?Does anyone know how many spaces for each subject? How long was the interview for those who have attended. I would imagine the whole process is very competitive. For those of you who have applied do you have very good degrees as mine is not so great?Best of luck to all who applied and let us all know when ye hear either way. Aplogies for all the questions just curious as there is so little information as it is so new yet.

Well my first subject is English, and I know that another being interviewed next week is English as well. Ashm14, is it a case that they will interview all in a subject area in a block and then make decisions on which candidates to accept? Or am I reading your post incorrectly?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 Ashm14

    Hi K,
I called the college and they said were interviewing by subject area and will be interviewing for the next couple of weeks. Thats the only solid piece of info I have im assuming that they will interview everyone and then decide. But they might let people know as they go along. Theres very little info available on numbers they are taking etc so its hard to judge.
If your anxious to know when you will find out (even just a ball park time) I would give the college a call. They were extremely nice and helpful when I called.
I hope that helps im sure everything will work out, the waiting is the worst part!

Hi I have my interview August 15 and I am just looking for some information regarding the interview. What kind of questions are asked?Would be grateful if anyone could enlighten me?

    Hi Everybody

I had my interview last thursday and got an email of acceptance this morning :). The interview was very relaxed and they asked you questions based on your personal statement and your teaching subject. Questions such as classroom management, discipline as well as types of learning styles cropped up in my interview.

Relax in the interview, It only lasts 15 to 20 mins and don't forget to smile, they will be judging your personality :)

Good luck to everybody else, and hopefully see you in October

    Hi K,
looks like its actually relatively quick turnover as another poster got acceptance today from interview last week.

Like I said if you have any concerns just give them a bell.

Hopefully you'll hear soon. Best of luck!

You and me both! From what I hear of the Primary course with Hibernia it is pretty heavy going, so I'm assuming this will be the same, but I am really looking forward to getting stuck in to the course.

ah lads i'm getting nervous now!! my interview is next wednesday night at 7.45! Where exactly is the interview being held they didn't send me an e-mail with directions like I had asked so I want to make sure I know where I am going!! Do they ask you specific questions about different novels etc.. or just general questions on English or History (my two subjects!) good luck to everyone going for interview and let me know how you get on!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 polikmu

Had my interview last thursday too, and got my acceptance confirmation on Friday there. So they seem to let you know pretty quick. My first subject is Geography.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14 KK21

Hey, these are the directions that they gave me and they were spot on. I'm guessing that your interview will be on in the Hibernia Office in Clare Street too! Best of luck with it.

Directions: If you are heading down Grafton Street toward Trinity College/Molly Malone statue take a right at the end of Grafton Street down Nassau Street. Continue straight down Nassau Street and you will pass the Kilkenny design Centre. Keep going until you get to Clare Street. Hibernia College is directly opposite the millennium entrance to the National Gallery of Art, No 2 Clare Street we have a Blue door and the logo is on the blinds. It’s about 8 minutes walk from Grafton Street.

Hi, I am also interested in applying for the HDip in Post Primary with Hibernia. My subjects would be Economics and CSPE. I know that Economics will not be offered until 2012 so I was wondering JI1 where did you hear that they will be running Economics in Feb 2012 as I can't find any information on this on the Hibernia website? And good luck to everybody who is interviewing at the moment.

Does anyone know much about how the online tutorials go? Are they broken down per subject or does the whole class year log onto the one tutorial? Or are they more than one a week that you have the option to log onto?

Surely if there is only one for all the year? Particapation is pretty impossible? Anyone know how it works for the primary course?

Before parting with such a huge amount of money, do you realise that economics is not a subject offered in a lot of schools? If it is offered, there won't be many hours in it as only 1 or 2 leaving cert groups will take the subject twice a week and the business teachers will teach it.
CSPE is used as a timetable filler in a lot of schools so having a qualification in it means sweet all!
Jobs are like gold-dust as it is but I imagine with a subject like Economics only, it would be nearly impossible to get any hours in a school let alone a full 22 hours.

What did I say that wasn't nice? It's all truth and fact. Just because you may not like it, does not make it "not nice".

Ashm14 if you have a problem with a post please report it rather than commenting on thread. There was nothing wrong with the post in question. Back on topic please.

I do realise Economics is not a popular subject but being registered with the teaching council in Economics means I can also teach Business Studies up to JC level so I have looked into it and my degree is in Economics.

I was asking a question merely about when the subject would be offered with Hibernia but thanks for the advice.

Perhas you should investigate adding another subject such as maths to your list of subjects that you can teach? Given that you did an Economics degree you should have a fair amount of maths in your course and if you contacted the TC and found out wht else you would have to do it could be an option. There's a thread on here that gives info on the Open University route to becoming a qualified Maths teacher.

The advice from gaeligebeo was really sound though......

Thanks Doc 17 have actually been looking into that myself and have seen the thread. I think adding another subject would be a good idea.

Back on topic just wondering how the interviews went with Hibernia and for those who have already been accepted have you sorted out your teaching practice yet in schools?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭Rosita

I'd imagine that those recently accepted by Hibernia and now looking for teaching practice places will find themselves at quite a disadvantage in comparison to the other colleges in which people would have been offered places in early April and will have been able to try to secure a teaching practice placement in the meantime. Then again maybe it'll suit schools to have extra bodies available to them at different times with things having tightened up greatly on the staff front.

I'd say getting a post at a school shouldn't be too much of a problem. Teachers are usually happy to take someone in under their wing.

I read something somewhere on the internet the other day (here possibly) that someone had tried 85 schools for a place with no luck. And I usually read every year of someone in the month of July/August who has found it impossible to secure a place. That's all I'm going on, but maybe you're right.

Things have obviously improved immensely in the last year or two so. There used to be a right old scramble for TP in recent years. Nice to see things improving in some area anyway!

Anyone doing history as first methodology had an interview yet? Were the panel nice? I'm a bit worried about the subject expert and what exactly they will ask you. Anyone any feedback on what questions they asked specific to your subject choice?

Hey, must be great to have it over. I have mine in the next few weeks- just wondering do they ask technical questions about your subject area? Just don't know what kind of questions they could ask- How do they ask quaetions on the subject areas?? Did you look through the Leaving Cert books to prepare, afraid they might ask me technical questions on the various chapters of the books for the subject areas.
Would it be an idea to read through the leaving cert books as my subjects are Biology and Chemistry??
Any help you could provide would be great-

Hey- great its over I'd say!!

Did they ask you about your subjects you took in College??
Have you any suggestions how I could prepare for interview now that you hav gone through it??
    Any help would be brilliant.....................
