    Ok so..

I have to go to a GP tomorrow for a first ever gynecologist exam..
I have to admit I'm a bit nervous!
What should I expect? What do they do? I probably should have been to one before now :o

Do other people get nervous beforehand?

Yes, I'm sure nearly all women get nervous before their first visit at the very least. Many get nervous before visits even after they've been to a few. It's not the most comfortable position to be in, after all, so it's completely understandable. :)

They will have you undress and put your legs up, and they will first examine you manually and then with a speculum. It's all over very quickly so try to relax and things will go much more smoothly.

    Good luck!

You'll have a blanket over your legs, so you won't be lying there starkers...

They're used to people being nervous, try not to be :)

    Thanks for the advice!

Does anyone ever get this done by a male GP?

Yes, a male GP and a male specialist. Both very professional and it was all over in about a minute, with minimal fuss.

Don't feel bad about saying this is your first time and you're worried it will be uncomfortable. You are not the first and won't be the last nervous patient they see :) They will probably be more than happy to explain what will happen and assure you.
