Just signed up for the Mens Health survival of the fittest on the 8th of October in Nottingham.

Has anyone on here done it? what should I expect and how tough is it? I can run 10k with no real problem, but am worried about the obstacles, or will they just be a break in the monotony of running.

    Cant wait for it,
    Should be a good laugh.

I've been thinking of doing the 1 in Edinburugh, but noticed they've got another set in London so may do that instead.

The obstacles aren't meant to be too hard to do and appearently they'll have people on the side to guide/advise you through them.

Was all set to do the London one but some of the lads cant get the time off, the party after it is suppossed to be a good laugh.

Will you be doing any different training. I'm doing a normal three day split with a good bit of cardio. I'd like to be running 12k at a good pace before I head over. I would be aiming to do the course in under an hour if there is not too many in the way and I can keep my pace up.

I had a look at a few video's from last year, some brilliant looking obstacles

    An hour should be achievible.
It's roughly an obstacle every kilometre, so they shouldn't drag your 10km time down too much. What would you currently run for a 10km?

My last 10k was 50mins flat. on a fairly hill course, but i cheated as usual I do canicross with my two dogs, I find it a great way to run longish distances without the boredom. I reckon it knocks off 30 secs a kilometre.

One of the lads doing this with me is trying to get us on to some obstacle course in the Curragh before we head over so we will aim to do two 5k runs with two passes through the obstacle course. i know nothing else about it, I dont know if its even public access or if its army.

I have never done anything like this but I'm hoping it will spur me on Gael Force West next year.

I suppose the time off per km would depend on the breed of the dogs, 30secs per km is a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if you were good for a 50min 10km yourself flat out.

Which leaves you 1 minute per obstacle, which is about right i'd say. They don't look to be very intense army type obstacles, like rope climbs, high walls, monkey bars etc, but rather a bit of a scramble, haybales, under a net, a small water course.

    Looks like fun tbh

    Well lads

    How are you all?

Hope you are keepin well and looking forward to the MH SOTF.

I was meant to do all three of them last year but I done my knee in so they let me defer my entry to this year thankfully.

Really looking forward to it, I wouldnt worry too much about it lads, the craic will be mighty and from what I've heard there does be queues on certain obstacles so don't be worrying about 10km PB's....its all a bit of craic.
