Stomach 'fat?' that feels hard

    Hi everyone,

Im female, ive been running for over a year now, also do some kettlebells sometimes (but not regularly enough - i find lifting weights pretty tough, so its easier to motivate myself to run:o ). I also cut down on bread, pasta and rice...i do eat chocolate and sweet things, which i know i shouldnt.

Here is the thing though, from the running my legs have toned up, esp my calves quite a lot.
My problem area is my stomach - it sticks out, but if im standing up, it doesnt feel flabby like fat should, it feels quite hard to push on. At the sides (my hips i guess) it feels flabby.
When i sit down or lean over, then it feels flabby -presumably the fat from the sides shifts in?? i dont know..
I really want a flat toned stomach when im standing. But if i keep losing weight (and i know i cant spot reduce) and eventually get rid of the extra fat by my hips, im still going to have big sticky out belly, cos i dont see the extra fat there when standing.

I guess my question is, why doesnt it feel like fat when i stand? Is there any way to to tone this up or is this just my body shape. Ive never had kids btw, and when i was younger i dont think my stomach was shaped this way. And i can pull it in to make it seem quite slim.

Im sorry if this is a stupid question - hope ive explained myself right:o

Maybe that's your actual gut/stomach sticking out. Do you do any ab work? If you build up your abs, then they'll do a better job of holding everything in nice and tight. Pilates is great for that btw...

Could it be hard due to bloating?my stomach sticks out with not much soft flab and feels hard to touch.I have gut probs though (ibs) and the bloating causes stomach not to be flat.Do u notice does it maybe stick out more in evening time than morning.I personally cut out gluten for my gut issues-that helped. But I find sugary things bloat me leading to sticky out stomach...!

Definitely sounds like bloating, like mcballer says could be ibs, try swapping foods out of your diet (like no diary/grain etc for a week) and see if it makes any difference

If you want to be sure - go see your doctor. No one on here can honestly know for sure.

If you're looking for an exercise to tone up the rest of your body like running has for your legs in IMHO there's nothing better than the rowing machine - it hits everything ie. your core, legs, arms, shoulders and back. Try it for a month and you will see and feel the difference.
