    Good evening, Motors boardsies.

It's not long to my wedding now, 23rd Sep, 10 weeks. And I'm on the mooch for a favour. Basically, I'm looking for a kind soul, with a tasty motor to transport myself and 2 groomsmen from "De Mammies" to the hotel where we're having the cerimony.

It's just a trip of about 20 miles, max, and maybe a couple of photos.

I have herself sorted out with 2 Beetles, proper beetles 70's ones, and I'd love to have something tidy to turn up in. Modern, classic, I'm not fussy. I'd love a 67 Impala, but that's not happening.

    The venue is in Cavan.

Mentioning fundage on a public forum would be less than wise due to the insurance implications should anything happen on the journey unless the car was registered as a PSV with the driver suitably licensed ;)

Whatever your petrol costs are for the day, and my eternal gratitude.

There are no generous kind souls in Cavan! :pac:

Would this be better suited to the Classic forum?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,995 ✭✭✭Sofiztikated

Doesn't necessarily have to be a classic, I'd be happy enough in a Maseratti Quattroporte. :D

I wouldn't be a poster in the Classics, but if one of the mods feels the need to move it, then so be it.

(For the record, there are generous people left down here, the use of the 2 beetles for the day is costing me petrol, and that's about it!)

If you don't mind it in black and with a KE reg plate that is !

Or then again if you want a 07 red civic 5 door hatch with a KE reg again

20miles is nothing to be fair... I'd do it just for the day that's in it ... I wouldnt take anything for it :)

You're not very up on what a 'favour' is are you?

OP, if I had anything decent, I would sort you out!

Sadly, all I can offer is a hatch corrolla, if you want to load the mother in law in the back!

Many garages would help you out specially those that do rental cars as a sideline for not a huge amount of cash

Could be worse. I thought the thread was about a Kia Soul for a minute.

    How new is brand new?

    .

Does it matter? They're no less a Hiace regardless how new they are.

Unless of course your wearing a wife beater to the wedding. But then again, if you were youd most likely have your own Hiace.

Robbie, an 05 A4 is a fine car, and your Civic is nice too, but neither of them are tasty wedding cars.

    They're just not.

Some wedding dresses can be quite wide so you need something big.

How about my Ford Transit Connect?

Its white, would match your dress, throw a mattress in the back, you could start your wedding night early.....

    Nope.

And I'm not being a snob, my wedding car was a 5Dr Corsa, but for someone who's looking for a tasty wedding car, they're looking for something for a once-in-a-lifetime day - and that needs a once-in-a-lifetime car.
They're aiming for a car that they don't expect to own or drive in the normal circumstances, in their life.

For most people, an 05 A4 is obtainable (at some point). Things like very high spec large executive cars, supercars, classic cars are less likely to be owned by the average person.

05 A8 would be ok but not an A4.

ahwell t'was worth a shot so

but for a really class car for a wedding i think most people here with classic cars would be afraid to take them out of the garden or warehouse and so on so im guessing OP should go to a company that specializes in this sort of thing ?

any way... best of luck !

I think that kind of 'blagging' takes a hard neck. Personally, I'd feel bad about accepting such a favour. Especially for such a big occasion, I'd rather pay than be under a compliment to a stranger. Family or close friends would be a different thing.

If you go to any of the numerous heritage and vintage days that be on you could perhaps take your pick of vintage vehicles....

There are no IVETA affiliated events in your area in the immediate future, but the Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival may be an option - Moynalty is not far from Kells/Bailieboro/Kingscourt.

There are many people who do these circuits who would be delighted to have an excuse to go for a spin, but finding the right person may be the problem! If you have any acquaintances who are involved in these festivals they could probably hook you up.

When attending the Vintage Days they do expect to be well looked after in terms of tea/sandwiches etc... I'd respectfully suggest a bottle of spirits or a voucher (perhaps hotel restaurant) or something along with the petrol money and a thank you card afterwards.

Or a legitimate RS4. (Not an RS4 TDI)

Seriously though, Robbie, thanks for the offer of both cars, but as Chris said, I'm honestly after something that I don't or wouldn't have the use of every day.

I do understand that most people that have that type of car wouldn't be on for it, but as I said, it's worth a shot.

If I go to rent a car for the event, most places are looking over the €400 mark, and I just can't justify the expense for what is going to be 20 miles plus maybe a few photos.

Meh, a stranger is just a friend you haven't met (to paraphrase The Simpsons.)

A friend used to have a 69 Mustang, (which I would have jumped at in a heartbeat) but he traded in against a 80's Ford Crown Victoria (with full sheriff livery), and I just don't feel the love for it. Although, just after remembering his Supercharged 02 Mustang. Might give him a shout now. Other than that, my friends and family drive very mundane cars.

Honestly, let me sort out whatever reimbursement myself and the driver decide is appropriate. Doing what you suggest would cost me over €300, so there wouldn't be much difference in hiring a car for the day.

I had the perfect car in mind for the OP less than an hour away, just thought I'd set him a little test first.

I think I have to agree, to be honest.

OP probably spent a fortune hiring out another car, on the dress, venue, church, photographer, etc. but then expects a stranger to pop along to chauffeur people around for free?

I don't think I'd jump at the chance, myself. Just my honest opinion.

Straight up, I'm looking for a favour.

I do have ways of returning favours, that I'm not willing to go into on a public forum. And I always return a favour.

But in all honesty, would you (or whoever you have in mind) really want to go to the actual wedding of stranger?

EDIT: That came out a LOT sleazier than I intended! :D
