Returning to fitness

    hi,
    I fractured my lower spine 11 years ago and from time to time it flares up and I let all my fitness go out the window and the weight piles on. I'm at the end of another flare and need to get fit and shed the weight. Is there anyone out there in a similar position. All I can do at the moment is walk, swim and watch what I eat.
    It's like rehab stuff I have to do also. My biggest problem is that when I get fit I get over excited, take on too big a challenge, get injured, get depressed, stuff my face and get fat....now that I recognise the pattern I do not want to let it happen again.
    Any help, comments, tips, good, bad or indifferent, I wont be offended, I just need the help.
