Why on Earth do people still smoke?

Almost everyone that does wants to quit.
The smell it creates is disgusting.
    Most non-smokers find it unattractive.
They cost a bomb, something like 8.50 for a box.

I also hate when people I know that smoke tell me their woes caused by smoking, how they have cough all the time and how expensive it is for them.
Or when they decide to give up, last until friday and then act all sad that they caved because they were drinking.

    Also, social smokers....WTF!

Because it's extremely addictive and a lot of people can't be arsed to give up or lack the willpower, some people actually really enjoy smoking believe it or not.

I smoke fags with Menthol, because the box has a lovely green colour :D

And Menthol is healthy, you'll find it in toothpaste, cough syrup, lozenges, etc. ;)

    I smoke because

    A) It makes me look cool

    B) It goes perfectly with a good feed of creamy guinness.

    and

    C) Its the icing on the cake of a good feed.

I always have chewing gum present though to take the smell off my breath (for the comfort of others) and I dont smoke indoors so my clothes dont smell to bad

    Smoking is great.

It's expensive because it is such a good thing to do. All the best things are expensive to do. Formula 1 racing, going to outer space with Richard Branson, wearing excessive amounts of gold and diamonds and smoking.

I smoke because it's none of your business.

To each there own. If you smoke in an unventilated room, then yeah. Every nonsmoker says that you stink even when your not smoking, or smokers taste horrible if you kiss them - If you have good hygiene its pretty hard to tell if someone smokes.
I have yet to meet a person that has found it unattractive or a turn off.

Eh, no - if you smoke - no amount of washing is going to hide it. The smell is pretty awful. My mam smokes and I find that when I meet my dad or brothers who live at home and don't smoke that the smell of stale smoke is pretty over whelming - they don't notice it because they have become used to it but I'm away from it most of the time so it's really strong to me.

I have never ever had to opportunity to say "oh, you're a smoker?? I couldn't tell!"

Every one of my friends finds it unattractive and it would most definitely be a deal breaker - me included.

While cigarettes cost €8.65 a box, you get 20 of them. A pint costs about €4, and you definitely don't get the same amount of time or satisfaction from it. In fact, a 20bag is far better value than 5 pints, imo, and has less problems associated with it.

I have a problem with passive smokers, I honestly think ye should get a life and smoke your own ciggies instead of hanging around with us smokers, I think you are confusing me with sombody who gives a f**K, I bet you have a sneeky smoke when no ones around....go on....admit it... :p

Funny, must just be me so (doubt it;)!).

Unless I've smoked directly before meeting you, you would not be able to tell that i'm a smoker, guaranteed :) Lots of people have said this to me aswel, i'm not just assuming it :pac:

I don't have yellow teeth, I don't cough, my fingertips aren't yellow, my clothes don't smell of smoke (unless i've been smoking inside or something).

As I said, if you look after yourself, you can mask that you smoke pretty well:)

Look, you can tell yourself that all you want but I'm telling you no matter how long ago someone smoked, if it was inside or outside or whatever - yes, I can smell it off them and it's stomach turning!

It really boggles my mind how smokers don't get this at all - the smell doesn't just magically disappear after time, it stays on your clothes and hair, it's on your breath (and brushing yr teeth/eating a mint/spraying yourself with perfume/aftershave doesn't make it go away - it just mixes in with it and makes it even worse!)
If I don't wash my clothes after someone has smoked at me/on me - the next day it is actually worse - it really is rotten!

Not just me either - all my non smoking friends say so. Just because you can't smell it doesn't mean I can't.

I don't need to smell anyone - the smell attacks me and I wish I could turn my sense of smell off.
Smokers stink - all the time. End of. Anyone saying otherwise are either smokers deluding themselves or non smokers trying not to hurt feelings.

Generally trolling begins in the middle of a thread, not at the start. It's sometimes witty, mostly not as in this case. Why react to what is either an attention seeker or a troll ?.

Non-smokers die too (apologies to Mr. Hicks RIP if that was the joke).

You're almost bursting a vein at the thought of smokers being around you, can you blame me for thinking you're no craic :pac:

And usually when someone is acting as outraged as you about a topic so meaningless as people still smoking nowadays not because millions of people die every year from it but because they don't like the smell means it normally is a troll.
