Lettuce

    It's crap.

It really is, it doesn't taste nice and it's only used by sandwich bars to make their sambos look full when in fact there's shag all in them. But lettuce. You may as well be eating water. I don't know but I'd say it's got shag all nutritional value either, unless you eat an entire head perhaps.
And I don't mind having a salad every so often, there's a great salad bar at work, but I don't need lettuce in my salad, I'm happier with meats and eggs and beetroot and onions. F*ck off with your lettuce.

It tastes crap, it looks crap, it smells crap and is used to make you think you're getting something when in fact you're getting damn all. I truly believe the human race would be better off without it.

If you think there may be a worse vegetable (is it a vegetable?) or fruit, then lettuce hear about it.

Lettuce has its purpose.. it's great for holding the salad dressing if nothing else.

    Beetroot can feck right off.

My 3 year old nephew pulled some lettuce out of his sandwich one day and said "I'm not eating grass mummy" - it was hilarious, she only put it in to see what he would do.

A bit of iceberg is nice on burgers and with other stuff but some lettuce is bland and tasteless alright.

Cucumber can feck away off too.

    Evil.

Beetroot rules in a chicken sandwich, keeps it nice and moist. I love my beetroot, I'm like Bert Baxter

Yeah, and it stops the mayo or whatever making the bread soggy.

    Gherkins are just evil.

This guy is nearing the end of his final year in secondary school, unfortunately he still has to share a room with his younger brother who is about 5 or 6.

One night, he decides to bring his girlfriend home for a little fun. They have bunk beds and the guy notices that his little brother is already asleep on the lower bunk, so he and his girlfriend climb up to the top bunk.

As you might expect things start to heat up. The guy remembering that his little brother is sleeping below so he tells his girlfriend to whisper,”lettuce” if she wants it harder and “tomato” if she wants a new position.

“Lettuce, tomato, lettuce, tomato, lettuce, lettuce,” she whispers.....

Then the little brother shouts up, “Hey, would you guys stop making sandwiches up there, you’re getting mayonnaise all over my face.”

No-one likes the taste. It's nice because it's crunchy (iceberg all the way) and it moistens up a dry sandwich.

The Chinese dish Meat Sung is nice, i.e. minced pork or chicken eaten with iceberg lettuce for the Philistines among use.

Other than that, no real use. You may as well have a glass of water with dry bread than have a cucumber & lettuce sandwich

Another lettuce bashing thread. Dont tar all lettuce with the same brush. Just because theres a few bad lettuce out there you shouldnt think all lettuces are bad. A lot of lettuce grow in the community and are very good for you.
Did you know that Hitler hated lettuce and lettuces are illegal in communist China?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭strokemyclover

Lettuce rules. I would eat it on it's own while I'm rummaging around the fridge for something more filling but obviously it's best eaten with other things. Onion and/or pickles perfectly compliment the crunch of a decent lettuce (along with a dead animal of some sort).

Best taken out of the ground rather than the pox they give you in Deli's btw

Which, strictly speaking is not lettuce at all.

    More of a herb really.

I like it, for it's crunchiness. it goes mega with mayo.

apparently it has mild sedative properties.

Never seen someone get so angry over a food item. I would suggest a hobby/interest to fill your time.

Edit - you are also completely wrong regarding it's nutritional value :
It is also a good source of Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Copper, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Thiamin, Folate, Iron, Potassium and Manganese.

Lettuce is shít. Spinach is where its at!

Oh and celery can suck my balls. What a poxy food. And when I order buffalo wings I don't want a big ass chunk of celery on the plate too!

'Lettuce' just looks like such a strange word right now.

I have no time for it personally. It's a non-food, begone with it. It's sole saving grace is that it's not celery. Celery is what death tastes like.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

Lettuce not mention this grass food any more!

    Thought rabbits like carrots more...

As my Mam used to say,..."You'll never see a rabbit wearing glasses:pac:"....something to do with carrots being good for my eyesight

What's the reason for being reasonable?

    Is that an unreasonable question?

I remember hearing something about how some people have a particular taste receptor thingamajig which makes them really despise the taste of celery.. those that don't have the receptor say that celery tastes kinda like water. I can't find any links, it could be another vegetable that I'm thinking of.. or maybe I dreamt it.

I love lettuce. I just think it adds a little extra crunchiness to a sandwich / salad, as well as colour.

There are some veg I rather eat raw than cooked, but wouldn't rule them out of cooked food either. Carrots and turnip are two I can think of.

Cauliflower cheese = The contrast is nyums.
