Feel a bit sad for Galway tbh. I used to LOVE the Connacht derby. It was the biggest game of the year for me as a native Sligo man. It was a game I never missed but I couldn't be bothered going to Galway tonight for it tonight. It hasn't been a good derby for a few years now :(. Fair f**ks to the fans that still show up every week to support them through this really low point.

Jaysis, it's going to take some team talk to keep that out of double figures.

Aaron Greene is having another fantastic game at left back apparently.

Davoren and Powell will have to fight hard to win that spot!

Excellent win for The Youths tonight against a poor enough Waterford team. A much needed boost. Big talking point of the night was Youths manager, Noel O'Connor being sent to the stands following words over a shocking tackle on Eoin Kinsella. It went unpunished under the nose of the Lino (I refuse to call them assistant referees 'cos they never 'assist' the main man)

Anyway, at full time when everyone was leaving the pitch, Noel came out of the stand at the very far end to join the players going in the tunnel. However, he was prevented from doing so by 2 stewards who man handled him as he tried to join the players. This eventually led to him being evicted from the ground and he had to stand outside the gates of the RSC. When our players saw this, they all joined him, still wearing their kit as a show of support.

Feck the 3 points, we know we're having a mare of a season but that was a show of solidarity that proves we have a club that's in this together.

    Well done to all.

    Forza Youths

Unlucky for Bray, Derry punished them on their chances was the main difference. Least no matches for a few weeks, can get a much needed break with Shams match postponed.

Wow. We were robbed tonight. Better team for 70 minutes until fitness gave in, but we still comfortably dealt with Rovers' threat. Goal in the very last minute of stoppage time. Thought we had weathered the storm but Twigg bailed them out after latching onto a desperate hoof from Dan Murray.

We really did play well tonight and if Rovers showed even half the fight that Drogheda did tonight they would walk the league. At the moment they simply do not look good enough.

We were denied a stone wall peno in the first ten minutes. Clear push in the back by a Rovers defender chasing after a looping ball. No attempt to play the ball. Will be interesting if MNS show it.

Having said that, goals win games and we had 4 very good chances and didn't take any of them.

Rovers keeper was well dodgy. There was a good bit of banter when we started singing "Super Keeper!" to Trimble and then turned to Thompson (?) and sung "Dodgy Keeper". He smiled and gave us a thumbs up.

Gutted but what can you do. Was delighted with the performance all the same and I'd pile the money on us to beat Galway next week.

Dundalk were quite poor last night although never really needed to get out of second gear. Fair enough result although if we play like that against Derry we'll be hammered.

What are Shams going to do without Mannus? Already under performing and, if that clown they had in goal last night is the replacement, it's not looking good.
Mannus' performance against Sligo on the first or second week of the season this year - he basically won them the match - was stunning.
    Sligo for the league.

    Sligo for the league.

They've signed Richard Brush. They'll be fine in goal with him.

Apparently he was all set to re-join us but then we got Powell and couldn't afford to sign Brush too, so he went to Shams. He'll be back in between the sticks for Sligo Rovers at some point though. Nice lad.

Give Thompson a chance: kept a clean sheet last night albeit with a few jitters. Have to see more of him to judge.

People are in a rush to forget that Brush is a decent keeper too. I prefer to wait and see how players do with a new team before judging them. We've one of the best defensive records in the division anyway.

Mannus would be a big loss though but any team in this league will struggle to hold on to players of that calibre and that's that. Loads of time for him and hope he does well.

As for the game: if you time waste a lot and hold on for a point, it can hurt you. The notion of who deserves to win the game is a nice but quaint one.

He started? One of the dodgiest keepers I've seen play against Shels in recent years tbh, his running was gas stuff too.

It was actually a joke but I know the feeling of being sucker-punched.

Certainly a great source of worry how poorly Rovers are playing with the players at our disposal.

If we win every game 1-0 this season due to a "desperate hoof" I wont complain. We showed the football we are capable of on tuesday and while id love to see us pass it around the back more, we arnt going to do that every game. Took drogs for granter perhaps...but a wins a win.

    Roll on tuesday.

    UCD 4-3 Villarreal

UCD shocked Spanish giant Villarreal in a friendly on Saturday, knicking a seven-goal thriller at the UCD Bowl.

Villarreal fielded a strong line-up including Joan Capdevila and Borja Valero while also using Marcos Senna and Nilmar from the substitiutes bench.

But strikes from Paul O’Conor, Michael Leahy, Tomas Boyle and a late own goal helped the Students, strugglers in the Premier Division, to a famous win.

Borja, Marco Ruben and Santi Canzorla were on target for away side who are on a pre-season tour ahead of the Spanish season.

UCD were well worth their win. Villarreal CF put out a different team at the beginning of each half, the second half was the stronger team. But UCD kept the edge and ran out worthy winners.

    After Edit:
Obviously it's Santiago Cazorla got the sixth goal of the game.
