Tea/ sugar and carb addict

    Hi all

I quit smoking about six months ago but put on about 10-14lbs I think, I don't have a scales but I know I've put some weight on. I'm looking to cut down on what I eat and I believe in the steady approach rather than quick diets or fads but...I believe I'm addicted to sugar and carbs, if I don't have either every day I get headaches, grumpy and can't focus. To be honest similar withdrawal feelings to the cigarettes. When I have stopped drinking tea I get headaches and feel worse. I'm thinking of cutting one item at a time (tea possibly as I tend to eat sweet stuff with it) has anyone any tips for dealing with the cravings and general withdrawal symptoms.

Or would I be better off kicking the whole lot at once?

I would say if you had the strength to quite cigs you can quit these other nasties no problem.
I gave up sugar & (most) carbs a while back and I won't deny it, it was hard. But once you got past the first week you'll be fine.
I got headaches for 2 days & was grouchy as hell. And I wouldn't even have had sweet things every day previously. Apart from fruit - I gave that up too, and I am back eating it now, a step too far imo!
No need to give up tea but stop adding sugar, no biscuits, sweets etc as accompaniment. Then the next week cut out bread (the worst of the carbs imo), then pasta & work your way through the list of things wou want out of your diet.

    Best of luck!

The teas only a problem if your drinking copious amounts everyday to the detriment of other liquids/food. And if you are putting sugar in it or having biscuits with it etc. Tea itself is not a problem.

If you kicked the cigs, you can kick the sugar. 4-5 days will be awful headachey, fluish and you may want to kill things but once you get over the hump you feel better. It may take longer to over this hump but in 2 weeks time from kicking them, you will be a new person!

I suspect you still haven't gotten over your cigarette addiction (psychologically)and you're compensating with sugar. Did you ever have this issue before you quit cigs?

    Thanks everyone.

Thank you, in answer yes. When I was a teenager I was addicted to chocolate, having about seven bars a day (I worked in my parent's shop, easy access). I used to take sugar in my tea but weaned that long ago and hate sugar in it now. I drink about 5-7 cups a day at the moment.
