    Easy all,

Just wondering if any of you have upgraded your hard drive.

I have a 40GB model, and I'm tired of deleting data in order to play new games.

I've read a few articles online on how to do it, just wanted to know if anyone hear has successfully done it, and where did you buy the new hard drive, what tools did you need/use etc etc.

    muchos appreciated for any replies

    It has been done, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055877280.

    Any 2.5" HD will do.

    Be careful with the screws.

I upgraded mine last week from an 80Gb to a 640Gb. Very easy to do & now I'll never have to worry about storage space on it again.

I must reiterate the importance of not ****ing up the screws, it it VERY easily done, try and use the exact size Phillips head screwdriver and press firmly in on the screw so you don't strip it.

My 80gb is full with mostly movies .

Whats the best way of copying from the 80gb onto a new SATA say 500gb ?

Easiest way is to use an external hard drive, (create a partition,) format it to FAT32, do a full back up of your ps3 files, format the new hard drive to FAT32 and put it into your ps3 (as mentioned above - the screws, the screws:pac:) then use the restore option on your ps3 to copy everything back from your external drive.

Using a program like easeus to partition and format a section of your external drive is very useful if you already have stuff saved on it and you don't want to wipe the whole thing. When you plug in the external to your ps3 it will only recognise the section that's been formatted to FAT32, it works well.

All of Japan technological might goes into tightening those screws. I got the blue one out fine then the 3 others but the last one was in good had to cut a groove and use a flat head then.

I upgraded my 40GB to a 500GB, was extremely easy. Just to reiterate what everyone else is saying though, make sure you get the perfect sized screwdriver.

Also, I'd recommend getting an enclosure for the old drive, then you can use it as an external hard drive with PC's, etc. I had to format mine with a programme called SwissKnife, and now I use it as a small external drive/large USB memory unit.
