The pair were held hostage in a flat in Dingwell Park in the town and endured a nightmare ordeal over a prolonged period, from the early hours of Wednesday into the evening.
Detectives from the PSNI's Rape Crime Unit at Mahon Road in Portadown believe a number of men were involved in the assaults on both victims.
Taughnevan community worker Pat McMenamin told UTV that local residents have been left reeling from news of the horrific attack.
"The community is in total shock to think this happened on their doorstep," he said.
"There seems to be some sort of fall-out between members of a foreign national community and it's been brought into our community.
"People are afraid because they think the people who are responsible for this may be living among us."
Anyone with information about activity in the Dingwell Park area on Wednesday is asked to contact detectives in Portadown.

It's not just an Irish problem.

I wonder what might happen to them.

Lurgan: that bucolic, peaceful place with no history of violent crime until those dastardly immigrants got there.

I know that, but is there anything wrong with me being more concerned about the country where most of my friends as well as my sisters and their kids are?

I wouldn't be concerned about the country at all in terms of your sisters and kids.

Things are tense with immigrants up there as it is
I can imagine there will be more hate crimes against them now
    This will have not helped

The victim was Lithuania. I wonder where the perpetrators where from? A 12 hour ordeal, some sick people about.

I assume from this bit that they were all Lithuanian:

I don't think anyone should spend much time worrying about an issue that can't be helped.. Especially in a very safe country such as Ireland.

to be fair theres worse has happened up round Lurgan direction over the years and it wasnt an immigrant community involved.

Lookup what happened in the "Murder Triangle" during the troubles.

I see what you mean, but at the end of the day your family is your family and it can be hard to not to worry for their safety no matter how small the risk.

Speaking of which, does anybody know what happened after that particularly horrific case in Louth:
    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/five-held-after-alleged-rape-of-woman-during-crowbar-attack-1668365.html

There was a huge outcry after the incident and then it dissapeared from the media attention.
All the suspects were Lithuanian teens, bailed after this brutal incident and subsequently dissapeared abroad after as they were released because they were never charged at the time. There seems to have been no willingness to to persue the case.

Our whole society is obsessed with sex. Children are exposed to it a ridiculously young age and in the wrong context. Until we fix that we will continue to produce loads of sex offenders.

Were these immigrants Irish people from the South who decided to go to the North?

It is true but we are not allowed say what we really want without the do-gooders pointing fingers at you and calling you racist etc

And it was predicted on another thread about something similar that gang rapes and crime would increase and be commited by foreign nationals

Some immigrants from that neck of the woods seem to be ultra-violent when they settle disputes, and don't seem to give a sh1t for the consequences of using knives etc., or using rape as a punishment.

Every now and again there's a case in the UK or here, and they all seem to kick off after the people involved have had a skinful, and an argument breaks out for some reason.

Why did the majority of sex offences in church institutions take place in thew 1940's 50's 60's and 70's then.....?

So let me see if I have this right: you can't spout racist crap without being called up on it? And that's a problem?

Aw, poor diddums, my heart bleeds for you.
And it was predicted on another thread about something similar that gang rapes and crime would increase and be commited by foreign nationals
And have they? Do you have anything to back up such an assertation?

I dislike how "PC" has come to refer to anyone unwilling to believe whatever makey-uppy bull**** the usual racist plebs come up with to justify their prejudice.

No he said be called racist. Simply being called racist by some PC nut doesn't mean someone has actually said anything racist.

a very safe country such as Ireland.
no matter how small the risk.
The statistic is 1 in 4. Not that small a risk then. Couple that with extremely lenient sentencing, prevalent victim-blaming, and under-reporting and I can see why you'd be worried.
an issue that can't be helped.
    Why can't it be helped??

We should appoint a leader of these sex criminals. Then spend the next ten years hunting him down all over world, causing many more conflicts along the way and generting lots of revenue for the anti-sex crimes industry.

We could call him Sammie de bin-manny or something.
