    http://www.tvline.com/2011/07/how-i-met-your-mother-kal-penn-house/

President Obama’s loss is How I Met Your Mother‘s gain.
Kal Penn — who put the brakes on his acting career two years ago when he traded in his regular gig on House for a job in the Obama administration — is returning to TV with a major recurring role on How I Met Your Mother, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.
A show rep declined to comment, but a Mother source says Penn will play a possible love interest for Cobie Smulders’ lovelorn Robin named Kevin.
Penn’s arrival of course reunites him with Neil Patrick Harris, who played, well, “Neil Patrick Harris” to his Kumar in the Harold & Kumar films.
Penn is slated to vacate his White House post — where he served as associate director in the office of public liaison — later this month. (Obama may not be losing Penn for long though. Sources have him hitting the campaign trail with the prez in 2012.)
HIMYM exec producer Craig Thomas strongly hinted to TVLine in May that Robin would jump back into the dating scene, especially now that her maybe-soul mate Barney had moved on with Nora: “Robin didn’t do a hell of a lot of dating at all [last season]; she was more [immersed in] switching careers,” he said. “Now, Robin, who’s single and is looking forward a little bit, can’t help but wonder if what happened between her and Barney could have been something more had they been more ready.”
Barney growing up a bit via Nora “has not gone unnoticed by Robin, who did not have a serious love interest this past year. She’s definitely going to have to wrestle with that at the start of Season 7.”
How I Met Your Mother kicks off its seventh season on Sept. 19.

His "exit" from House was certainly one of the most shocking moments in the show.

Here's hoping for a better season of HIMYM this year.

One of the more memorable moments in TV imo. An great episode.

I like Kal Penn a lot; hope he can help save this show. So much potential, and S6 was just pants, lets face it.

Finally got around to finishing Season 6, wasn't a great Season alright. Kal Penn is a great addition though.

    Season 7 Spoilers:
Season 7 will lead up to the Wedding and Lilly's pregnancy, so the Season 7 finale will focus on the wedding. So they've managed to drag the Wedding storyline over 2 full Seasons. But HIMYM's creator has hinted the Series will end with Season 8 so we might be given a few answers!

I think the only thing we know is that she's (Possible minor spoiler)
blonde and is a housemate of one of Ted's Ex's.

It's not a spoiler if it's just speculation based on what's already been shown. I thought she is definitely not blonde as we saw his alternative children who would have been blonde if he had gotten married in season 4.

Actually now that I think of it, it was never "confirmed" she was blonde. Dunno why I thought that.

I'm dying to find out the whole Barney and Robin thing whether they get married or not to each other never knew they were a couple until recently, the episodes on E4 are all over the place! Hard to keep track at all one minute she with ted the next barney, read reviews somewhere that they both fight over her!?

Yeah I think E4 are showing 3 different Seasons during the week. I believe the ones at 7:30 weekdays is Season 2, Thursday at 9:30 is Season 6 and Season 5 is shown sometime during the week too.

I thought she was blonde too, did he possibly see something in her apartment, or possible the ex/roommate said something about her being blonde?

The other thing we know is that he meets her at the
wedding that I presume is going to be at the start of season 7

I can't wait for the new season tbh - love the show...If the rumours about it ending after Season 8 are true then I'd be fine with that, nothing worse than seeing a show I love get dragged out for all it's worth as is the case for me with Entourage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

I'm not sure we have to Spoiler Tag all this but:
The writers have said that the whole of Season 7 will lead up to the wedding, which is ridiculous that they've dragged it out over two Seasons. But, like Season 6, we will probably get a clip of the wedding on the first episode of the Season.

I expected this would suck but actually I enjoyed the opening two episodes. It didn't all work but it was far far better than most of the tripe trotted out last season.

    Opr

First one terrible, one down, one to go

This series better not be all, rub a dub, love baby/ sad baby emotion crap,

Barney is a flicker of his former glory, his death is similar to that of Arie in Entourage

Wasn't a bad 3rd Episode. Looks like the whole Ted and Robin thing isn't over which is frustrating. We know since the Pilot that she isn't the mother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,591 ✭✭✭skeleton_boy

Average episode, no real laugh out loud moments but a few giggles. It was however very well constructed and the end did leave me thinking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

Pretty average, I'll agree... interesting set up though for the rest of the season, since I'm pretty sure Victoria is the mother for some reason.

Yeah I think so as well. After all, he did meet her at a meeting and out of all his ex-girlfriends, she is by far the most likeable.

I only watch this show on and off so I might have this wrong, but didn't future Ted at one point say that the mother was in the architecture class he was teaching?

It was the first day where it turned out he was in Economics, not Architecture...

Interestingly, it probably isn't Victoria either. Something had bothered me and I looked it up a bit and found this:
Due to the seriousness of their relationship, it was suspected Victoria would be the mother, but as was said earlier, in Lucky Penny. Future Ted states that he had not yet met the mother. Since Ted met Victoria months prior to this episode, it's clear Victoria is not the mother.

    Doesn't Barney have a half-sister that's college age?

In fairness, they didn't say Robin and Ted would get together again.
They just said that Robin, Ted and Barney hanging out together all the time wouldn't work in the long run.
Since there's so much Robin-Barney tension in the first two episodes, I presumed it'd be a reference to Barney and Robin's spending too much time together.

It wasn't his architecture class - it was when he went into the economics classroom and started teaching architecture iirc

First episode in a long time that actually gave me a few chuckles..

.. although Kal Penn sticks out like a sore thumb. How is it that someone who features so prominently in comedic roles just have zero comedic ability? Was far better in 'House' tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Have yet to watch the latest episode, but they could have given Kal Penn a much better character to play alright. Very dull for a great actor, and seeing this was his return to TV from a number of years absence they could of done much better for him. Himself and Neil Patrick Harris in the same sitcom had great potential.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Minstrel27

It's a pity that his character is annoying. Decent enough episode though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

Most recent episode was pretty dull. Kal Penn is getting on my nerves, can't wait for him to be gone. We find out the sex of the baby and more dates with not the mother. Zzzzzzz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

Episode 7 is the best of the series thus far. Pretty hilarious where Marshall's dad and Lily's dad are in bed together.

Agreed with this - awful episode and Kal Penn went from looking like he fitted in naturally to an actor who looked like he wasn't comfortable in comedy.

Thankfully you've said this as I've considered not watching anymore - Ted & Robin are annoying the living shít out of my lately and the season's been pretty terrible up until now....will watch tonight hopefully

I liked Robins Flash back in the last ep when she was ten years old being pushed into the forest/jungle from a helicopter with just a knife to survive alone for 3 days by her father lol, her past is what makes her so freakin funny! Hard bitch and none of them really know it haha.

But season 7 has been pretty bad must say, the whole not knowing what sex the baby is, complete filler ep IMHO, season 8 will be the last one i'd say.
    New ep tonight anyway.

Im liking Season 7 in general. Although I hope Victoria is not the mother, I dont like her! And she got pretty tubby over the last few years! I doubt Barney and Robin will end up together. But we'll see....... Also I dont think Kal Penn is right for the role, he just looks completely out of place in the show. And he's not nearly as funny as he has been in past shows and movies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,276 ✭✭✭readyletsgo

Is Barney not going to marry Robin? Thats what I've got from the end of last season, when you saw everyone in the scene but Robin, and Lily told Ted that the bride wanted to see him.
The mother, (what I can remember) what we know so far is, he will meet her with a yellow umbrella, she's blond, he scored her housemate, she was in his class(which wasnt HIS class) she's white.. emm...

    Robin or Nora

I think they said the bride wants to see Ted so people would think it's Robin but I'm fairly certain it's Nora - nothing to back it up but a hunch.

Except when Robin started the counciling and said she still loved Barney and her friend Nora was in the way basically.

Unless Ted and Nora become extemely close friends over the next 18 or so eps leading up to Barneys wedding lol

Well Ted's the best man I wouldn't think it unusual for the bride to want to speak to the best man

Like I said I think they're alluding to the fact that it could be Robin but I don't think it will be....plus I hope it's Nora because she's hawt and I'd like to see her kept around :)

I liked this weeks episode a bit more than the previous few - Ted annoys me incredibly but Barney with his "I can turn it around" was brilliant

D'oh, didnt think of that. prob right and its not Robin.

Well I just think that they're keeping us in suspense regarding whether it's Robin or Nora - by putting that in (Bride asking to speak to Ted) you'd automatically assume it's Robin but I think they're trying to throw the crowd by doing that

That's just what I think tbh

Also when Victoria told Ted that it was weird for him to be hanging around with Barney & Robin he said things were fine, followed by an image of them all drinking together before saying "But she was right, they weren't fine" I'm not sure whether he said "We'd soon find out" or not (could be my imagination :))

So I think there could be a fallout between Barney & Robin ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

Awwwwwwww snap! It's the kiss I think we've all been waiting for!

Really hope they don't just brush this off now and pretend it didn't happen for a few more episodes!
